  • Short, surprising, humanistic.

A wonderful book. Eloquent, and succint , a joy to read. Heartfelt.

  • Weather

Great word play. Seems like it was written for this very moment.

  • an intelligent read

For humans. Written in a style that makes you trust the author. In short, a short read about shortcomings and the fears of this decade.

  • I liked it quite a lot!

Well, now I've read all of Jenny Offill's adult fiction. This is the one I was most looking forward to but, in the end, it's my least favourite of the three. I mean, I did like it - quite a lot, actually - even the free-style writing that she also used to great effect in my favourite of hers: Dept. of Speculation. Last Things was also great, but this one fell a tiny bit short for me. I've been trying to figure out why and I think it's the "Weather", i.e. the atmosphere of the story. It begins in late 2016 - just after the Presidential election in the U.S. It's possible my loathing of that particular subject has affected my enjoyment of this book since anything that brings him to mind will immediately raise my hackles. Too bad, but I still love this author and will read everything she publishes!

    Thanks for your feedback!

  • Whines too much, not my kind of book

This is like reading someone's journal. No particular insights, not much optimism, or joy or enthusiasm. Seems like a unhappy person lucky to have a loving husband & independent mom. Quit complaining. Life is good and you are lucky to have a job, family & healthy child.

    Thanks for your feedback!
