This was such an exciting story, it's billed as a young adult, but I'm a long ways from there and I loved the story, it was hard to believe this was fiction the Canadian history very accurate and based on real characters and events.

Full of adventure and Canadian history

“West to Grande Portage” brings Montreal in 1766 to life. Phillippe Chabot admires his uncle and want to follow in his footsteps as a voyageur. He signs on with a merchant house and heads west as part of the canoe brigade his uncle is leading. Meanwhile, his cousin, Jeanne, spends her time volunteering at the hospital and looking after her sister who has consumption. Her new fiancé has also gone west as the clerk of the brigade. When a fire starts in a nearby house, she, her father, and the neighbours fight the blaze but are unable to stop it from spreading to other houses in the neighbourhood. This book is a Canadian adventure story of misfortune and heartbreak suitable for young adults, teenagers, and adults.
