When a Laird Loves a Lady

He felt as if he had suddenly been robbed of his ability to breathe. His lungs tightened. Love. He had no use for the emotion or the word. It pained him to know what he was about to say would hurt her, but he wanted to be certain she understood. ‘I want no part of love.’ She quickly glanced back up at him, her gaze locking with his, and her lips parted slightly. ‘You cannot mean that.’ The misery that still haunted him from losing Catriona wedged especially heavey in this moment when faced with the stark truth that he was marrying yet again. ‘I do mean it, Marion, and I’m sorry. I have been married before. I loved my wife, and when she died, so did my desire and my ability to love that way again.’ Can the death of a loved one stop someone’s heart from loving again? Johnstone’s historical romance really exposes the raw emotion of love for what it is—vulnerability that can be harnessed into strength. This tale is of a Scottish Laird who has fallen victim to the King’s orders of marriage to ensure safety in exchange for a man’s release from imprisonment. When a Laird Loves a Lady holds depth, historical adventure, emotional prevalence and timeless romance. Johnstone provides a riveting and fascinating story that will captivate readers who enjoy this genre. Iain and Marion are two individuals who are looking for their freedom within their own means. Iain must strike a bargain with King Edward for David’s release. Marion must free herself from an unwanted marriage to a vile man named Froste. Both Iain and Marion, in their own way, are lost souls who are searching for happiness. Iain has the strength and knowledge of a warrior, but Marion has the mindset and emotional capacity to withstand anything, even a thick-headed brute like Iain. She is all too determined to marry for love, especially after watching her mother perish at her father’s expense. He never loved her mother, nor her. His words spoke volumes, but his actions were unforgivable. With the help of a friend, Angus helps Marion escape—only to be caught by the one and only, Froste himself. With her options now running out and her distress caused from her friends punishment in aiding her escape, who will save her from the pain and brutality that her father is forcing her to bound herself to? Johnstone almost has a poetic vibe to her words and the rhythm with which she carries the story. It is clear that she has a profound knowledge of history and a lot of research went into her story. This author does a superb job with character development and originality. The pace is very fluid and quick, but not so quick as to hinder understanding or perception. As this story progresses, it becomes more of an adventure for both Iain and Marion. If you are a reader of historical romance, this may be an exciting read for you. Great Story!

I absolutely loved the story of Iain and Marion! A story about love, loyalty, and hope where two people are challenged and tested at every turn. From England to Scotland, fighting enemies, envy, and greed Marion and Iain discovered the power of love and family. I cannot wait for the second book of this series. Happy reading!

Great 1st Book for New Series

I adore Ms. Johnstone's writing and when I heard she was going to write her first Medieval story, I did a happy dance and was not disappointed. As with her other books, the scenes are descriptive. The characters are ones you can relate to even when you want to wring their necks. The story has the right blend of emotion and humor. There's treachery and treason at work and I was immediately drawn into this world and didn't want to stop reading until the end. The heroine, Marion, is beaten but not broken after a lifetime of neglect, abuse and belittling, is finally able to shine under the kindness of her new husband and his people. The hero, Iain, is dynamic, intelligent, strong, dangerous and more than able to protect all those in his care, including his new wife who he vows not to love after the loss he has suffered but love will not be denied even when the enemy makes their move. I received an ARC for an honest review. Medieval stories are my favorite romance sub-genre so I'm stoked to read more from this new series!

    DANGEROUS, ADVENTUOUS, AND ROMANTIC...

When A Laird Loves A Lady is #1 in the exciting new "Highlander Vows: Entangled Hearts" series. WOW! What a fast paced, set on the edge of your seat, passion filled, adventuous, dangerous and romantic story. With betrayal, treason, treachery and amidst it all hopefully, love. What more could a Medevial Romance fan wish? Can love find it's way into the heart of a unyielding Highlander, Lain MacLeod, who has lost so much, including his frail but beloved wife? Then, he's commanded to marry an English Lass, in order to start negotiations to free the Scottish King, David from the English. What he finds is no pampered, scared, English Lady, but a feisty, determined and independent Lady, who is in grave danger. English Lady, Marion de Lacy, raised by very tyrannical father, looking for love, acceptance, family and home find it among the MacLeod clan? If only they can survive the hardships they and the MacLeod clan face. From the first page to the last, readers will be captivated, ensnared and held in awe of the well developed characters and the magnificent storyline. Ms. Johnstone can definitely woo her readers! I can not recommend this story enough. A most delicious, emotional, heartwarming and an absolute must read. Fans of Scottish Highland Romance with danger and action will definitely want this one on their TBR list. A sensual but compassionate read. I loved the interaction between Lain and Marion, as well as the other characters. What an honor to watch their relationship and special bond grow. Readers will find a few surprises, and many twists and turns along the way. I was guessing who the traitor was right up to the very end. WOW! Awesome storytelling! A definite keeper! Please pick up "When a Laird Loves a Lady", you won't be able to put it down. Ms. Johnstone has brought the Highlands to life through the pages of her story. I absolutely loved this story! More, please and hopefully, soon, very soon. Very talented author, who knows how to bring her readers to tears. I questioned rather Lain and Marion would find their HEA or will evil prevail, right up to the very end. Can light replace darkness and fill hearts with an undeniably love? You MUST read to learn more. A powerful, emotional, and compelling story of Scottish hardships, turmoil, and how quickly they can be betrayed and how precious life is in the Highlands. One of my Favorite Medieval Romance authors and I can't wait to read more of this series. *Received for an honest review from the author* Rating: 5 Heat rating: Hot Reviewed by: AprilR. courtesy of My Book Addiction and More

    Wonderful Scottish Romance

I enjoy Ms. Johnstone’s writing style and stories very much…and this latest is a wonderful addition to her accomplishments. The English heroine (Marion) has led a sheltered life under a cruel, unloving father who wants to marry her to another cruel man to further his political interests. The Scottish hero (Iain McLeod) is still grieving over the death of his first wife when he is ordered by King Edward to marry Marion. And then ensues a lively to-and-fro courtship between a reluctant but dazzled Iain and a feisty maid Marion who wants only to be loved and welcomed into a loving family. Their romantic story is fraught with danger as Marion’s vengeful father seeks to steal her back from Iain and a traitor is discovered in the McLeod household. This love story has highs and lows that will entice you to continue reading from beginning to end and ignore life’s other distractions.
