  • Very fast paced ending, on the edge of my seat

This was so good! I had figured a couple twists out, but more in the "wow I feel so clever that I put it together" as opposed to thrillers where it's so heavy handed and obvious that it's not fun to have solved it. There was so much tension at the end and I kept going "whoa" and stopping to tell my husband what was happening.

  • I Meant 5 Stars!

At first I was mildly disappointed as I was sure I'd chosen a thriller and the beginning of the book did not seem like the beginning of a thriller at all... however it was so interesting and I laughed out loud a lot and kept reading... the twists and turns took me totally by surprise!! I haven't enjoyed a book as much as this since Altar of Bones...I really highly recommend. Thank you Alyssa Cole!

  • Good read!

When No One Is Watching is this author's first foray into this genre. It's highly believable and rage inducing. It's also good. I raged over the injustices in this world, the lack of empathy - turning a blind eye to the plight of others because of them versus us mentally rather than coming from a place of humanity. I loved how close knit the community was, how they looked out for and protected one another. Although I was angry through most of it I definitely recommend it. It's a book I think everyone needs to read.

  • A good book

This book reflects what’s happening in a lot of neighbourhoods. In the city where I live, you see so many condos going up. The wealthy move in and the poor move out. Or you have what we call renovictions in apartments. Really enjoyed the pace of the book but I found the ending a little far fetched.

  • A Pleasant Surprise

This book was a pleasant surprise. It is crime fiction but on a much more personable level than is normally found. Further, in the times of BLM, #MeToo, further, in the times of BLM, #MeToo, IslamAPhobia, and anti-Asian and anti-Asian Rhetoric, it is a fitting read. For those who are wondering, there also are LGBTQ+ characters. This book is about a neighbourhood. It is in Brooklyn and it is full of diversity. And then gentrification starts happening… One of the things I liked about it, besides the fact it was a great story and captured my interest, was that they were "bad guys" and " good guys" of every colour and ethnicity. Let's just say, money and privilege can be a root of evil done to others, but all humans can show integrity in the face of adversity, if they wish. Recommended.
