  • Beautifully written that will leave you spellbound

Caleb Hunt works as a financial advisor in his family's business. He is a workaholic at heart. He is also an only child who loves to take risks in and out of the finance industry. Whitney is a registered nurse for a big hospital. Her job consumes her, and, thus she has "no life." She lives with her best friend and roomie, Emily. Her free time is quiet times alone or hanging out with her roomie. When We Met is the second book of the Moments in Boston series by the same author, continues with a new set of characters interconnected by one of the most tragic moments in Boston history and had rocked its citizens to the core, Caleb's and Whitney's lives included. Everyone will remember that faithful day in Boston that changed Bostonian lives forever. Beautifully written in the third-person POV - omniscient, When We Met lets readers dive deep into the main characters' thoughts, feelings, and sensations. This technique gives readers a deeper connection and experience of characters and scenes. But there is more to the author's writing techniques that separate her from the rest of her colleagues - she also gives readers the "what-ifs" between the main characters. There is a duality in the book. Unlike the first book, readers will be surprised at how Caleb and Whitney got together, where they both are heading, and the ending leaves us all holding our breath until the last chapter. There are hardly any complications between the two main characters. Instead - readers will see situations being the barrier - what is real and what isn't. How can the author end the story with parallel lives - I highly recommend readers compartmentalize what they can and keep reading. Everything will reveal with the ending. Caleb and Whitney's story is serendipitous and yet, at the same time, tragically, gut-wrenching in some ways. Just when readers think the inevitable comes, the author brings us back to where the critical points are in the book. There is a lot of "brain exercises" going on. I held my breath and cried quite a few more than necessary. Caleb and Whitney left unique "impressions to each other" to make readers rethink a lot when the ending comes. I was on edge but didn't even know how to react as all the emotions of love, lust, doubt, and fear - were present. The supporting characters, most significantly - Emily, greatly round-out the story for a brilliant ending. They are witty, lovable, and supportive of the story. Emily plays the critical third party seeing Caleb and Whitney's story unwrap before her - making her also a crucial player in this book. I love Emily on how she foresaw and rationalized everything for Whitney. It was beautiful! In summary, I am a big fan of the author's works. Her haunting writing style, plot build-up details, and going deeper into the human psyche brings readers into a headspace, boarding the possibilities and the impossible. It is important to note that although I could have sped through this book within a day, I did not. I learned to savor: each scene, each element, and each character. I tried to draw out as much as I could this remarkable story of love, second chances, and the endless possibilities of a relationship. This book kept me returning to Caleb and Whitney's story a lot between the chapters. The author allows readers to explore the physical, psychological, and emotional of characters in random situations all in one book. I love how the author makes the readers ponder the events happening again - days after finishing the book - very "butterfly effect" in a way. I trust the author in bringing me to where the characters need to be as the ending came closer, and my heart shattered into a million pieces until the story wrapped into a fantastic finish. Like the series' first book (When Ashes Fall), When We Met already is tattooed in my subconscious mind, and I do not expect to forget the story and characters anytime soon. Kudos to the author and this remarkable series that honors a critical event in Boston history.

  • Coulda, woulda, shoulda!!

If you're looking for a soul shattering, subsuming story that will leave You Breathless, look no further. NEVER have I read a story where it's all going hearts & flowers towards a rosy HEA and the writer says" Hold my beer" , I want to show you what couldn't happen? NEVER have I ever read a story which follows a designated path and right at halfway point, crosses into divider and takes a u turn to show what the other side looks like. NEVER have I ever had my FAITH questioned as I did in this book. NEVER have I ever dreaded more the heartfelt desire to utter the words," if I could do it again, I'd do differently"!! Be careful what you wish for because that may not be a better outcome you imagine it to be like!! Pick up this book and start questioning your own life choices, your dandelion wishes, your Penny in the fountain prayers. Engrossing Story about Choices & consequences ranging from trivial to life altering. They divert the direction and trajectory of life subconsciously, as we know it. Marni takes the age old dilemma of retrospection - "What would've happened had I made a different choice back then?" and flips the story back and over to show what could've, would've, should've been. the result may or may not be pretty, the destination may be unintended and tragedies encountered maybe unwanted and that's EXACTLY THE point Marni makes. "Everything happens for a reason" Every book, every story, every new venture matures Marni's writing like fine wine. A true versatile Genius author, she pulls from real life tragedy and pain to pen some of the most memorable stories I've ever read. B.R.I.L.L.I.A.N.T. story that tries to see both sides of the time line. A violent see-saw of emotions surges like waves and manages to sweep the readers away like driftwood. We get to revisit Boston, the tragic day of April 15, 2013, when world ended for some and irrevocably changed the lives of all in the vicinity. “I let nothing get in the way, and I let no one in.” “You were just as lost as me.” In this series Moments in Boston , she uses the horrendous event of Boston Marathon tragedy and spins different vantage stories around it. Book 2 showcases the impact of the attack on Caleb Hunt, an adrenaline junkie, full of life and vigor. The gist of his life is one adventure after the other, in search of new thrills, New accomplishments, New places to visit. He tragically meets Nurse Whitney and she teaches him to slow down, notice and smell the roses, and for herself, she finds new calling in her life. “That’s how you have to treat life. Book that trip; take that adventure. Reach for that kiss—” To say that this book is soaked in tears is an understatement. I guarantee your heart will weep for them. Painful love which struggles to find respite in the maelstrom of responsibilities and duties. It's like a forever match of wrong place and wrong time. "We were in two different places in our lives, fighting the wind and current, aiming for that beautiful horizon." I could never ever in my wildest dreams imagine the direction marni takes the story to, or culmination in the way it does. What an #EmotionGasm, what a #RollercoasterRide, what an #AngstaBonanza Get your wine and tissues ready and sit in a Quiet corner to sip every word and taste them. It's a feast of sentiments served Marni-style. 5 stars for Trips & Adventures

  • Does everything happen for a reason?

I don't think I've ever read a series that has brought out so many feelings. Feelings that bore into your soul and stay there forever. You can't quite find the words to describe how you feel, but you can feel it down to your very being. The whole time I was reading this I didn't want to hold out hope everything was going to be okay. It was never perfect, but it was close, until it wasn't. This book destroyed me. I will never be the same after this book. "They say everything happens for a reason. What if it doesn’t?"

  • Another great surprise!

Marni Mann knows how to deliver a blow that will make your head swim.  She's theMistress of the special deliveries that blow your mind.  This is another of those stories. This series of interconnected stories are very emotional and heart wrenching taking the reader on a journey they're not ready for, especially the revelation by the end.  Every couple has been so great together. Caleb and Whitney are made for each other.  But you need to go into this blind.  Its worth every word of their story.  Mann I just love these stories!

  • 5 Brilliant Stars

Wow! Geez...I don’t know what to say that can convey how brilliant and unexpected this book was without giving anything away. Whitney is a nurse at a Boston hospital. Caleb is a financial adviser who works all the time. When the two of them meet sparks fly. They were very compatible and fell in love pretty quickly. This story was a rollercoaster of emotions and very original. At one point I honestly didn’t know what was going on or what was going to happen. But the end brings it all together. A wonderful story. I highly recommend it. Sorry I was so vague, but you really should go in blind with this one.
