    sweet and sexy short novella

This sweet and sexy short novella is the story of Zach and David, new neighbours on the same street who meet when firefighter Zach rescues David's cat. David is a rather shy, somewhat awkward history professor and sees Zach as someone totally out of his league. But while Zach may be the stereotypical athletic fireman, he's looking for the same thing as David - a companion, someone to share things with in hopes of a long lasting relationship. Can they open themselves up to the possibility of finding love, right in their own backyards? This story is told from David's point of view and though we don't get a lot of his background, we know that he was devastated from a previous breakup and has decided he's going to be content to be alone, with his cat as a loyal companion. He's quite a funny, shy chap - awkward and nervous when meeting new people (especially handsome men) but he quickly learns to accept Zach's friendly overtures (though at first he has no idea whether he's reading things correctly). Zach isn't put off by David's manner in the least and when it's finally revealed that yes, he is gay and is interested in David romantically, we get more than a few sparks of chemistry and an eventual sexy scene between them. I liked both characters, though it would have been nice to have Zach's point of view as well. Zack comes across as friendly, outgoing, straightforward and an all around nice guy. The other two main characters are an elderly matchmaking neighbor who is quick to try to put these two together, and David's cat who sparks their first meeting and is the impetus for Zach to come up with reasons to pursue his friendship with David. The story has a lovely happy ending, and was a quick and entertaining read. 4 stars.
