    Wicked Highland Wishes

Slowly, she turned her head toward him and their gazes locked. “Because he risked his life for me and sustained a terrible injury in doing so. But Marion made me see how wrong that reason was. Even greedy. I was marrying him to ease the guilt his selfless act caused me. But I ken I dunnae love him, and I dunnae believe I would ever love him the way he deserves to be loved—with all of a woman’s heart. It’s nae anything he’s done.” How would you feel if you had to marry someone against your will? What about someone who you feel that you owe your life to? Johnstone really delves into the emotional turmoil of a heart that is torn between duty and love. This tale is of a woman who has fallen in love with a man, but has been claimed by another—one who has saved her life. Wicked Highland Wishes holds depth, historical adventure, emotional prevalence and timeless romance. Johnstone provides a riveting and fascinating story that will captivate readers who enjoy this genre. Bridgette McLean is a fascinating, independent woman who longs to do things like the men. Her biggest desire is to go on a hunt with her brother and his men. Upon denial, she decides to teach her brother that she can take down the wild boar like any other man. When she stumbles upon the enemy, Lachlan MacLeod comes to her rescue…the man that Bridgette can’t get out of her head and heart after one kiss. Throughout the coming months, Lachlan’s brother makes his claim on Bridgette. Lachlan and Graham have been on odds since youth, but this final claim may break Lachlan for good. He feels an undeniable pull towards Bridgette, but an equally vast emotional determination to support his brother out of protection and honor. What is to be done when it becomes inevitable that they can’t stay away from one another, even though they have been pledged to others? Johnstone knows her characters well, to the point where this world is difficult to escape from. It is clear that she has a profound knowledge of history and a lot of research went into her story. This author does a superb job with character development and originality. The pace is very fluid and quick, but not so quick as to hinder understanding or perception. As this story progresses, it becomes more of a struggle for Lachlan and Bridgette, almost to the brink of eternal suffering. If you are a reader of historical romance, this may be an exciting read for you…but please know that this is the second installment. It can be read as a standalone, but does flow more consistently after the first installment has been read.

    A Must Read!

A heartbreaking love story between Lachlan and Bridgette that managed to grasp my attention from the moment I read it. This story took me on an emotional and rocky journey that made me laugh, cry, scream with frustration, and showed me that whatever happens, if two people are meant to be together, nothing will keep them apart. This book lived up to be everything I had hoped for and didn't let me down. A must read! Enjoy!

    Emotional read for me.

This book had me laughing and crying. There are some dark places, but love shines its light to warm your heart. I loved Bridgette's strength from the beginning. I held my breath at times when she did as she pleased. Lachlan was a very caring man with a big heart. The history behind the story was intriguing. I highly recommend this story, part of a series but does standalone. I received an ARC of this book. I am voluntarily reviewing this.

    Highland Adventure

Bridgette MacLean is a very independent young woman, determined to prove she is equal to any man. In the highlands of Scotland in 1354 that is not an idea the men are agreeable with. King David's reign is shaky, with some of his nobles acting against him. A woman is often used as a pawn to secure alliances. Lachlan MacLeod is brother to a powerful Laird and knows that he must put the needs of the clan above any personal wishes. When his King orders him to get information by any means necessary , he must obey. This is a wonderful highland adventure. Fate seems to be against our heroine. She puts the feelings of others before her own wishes. Our hero is torn between his desire and loyalty to his family. A very emotional choice in a dangerous time. An intriguing story that will keep you reading well last bed time. Very hard to put down. I loved it.

It begins with a kiss as a good love story should

It's rare in a movie when they make a sequel and it's actually better than the first movie. The same holds true with books. They might be very good stories but sometimes that first book is the one that keeps you coming back to read it time and again. For me, this book is that rare sequel, like Empire Strikes Back, that will keep you coming back to it because it's JUST THAT GOOD. Love, love, LOVE Lachlan! He is what I love most about a hero. He's loyal, fair, fierce, honorable, funny, sexy, loves his family and doing what's best for them is a code he lives by regardless if it means sacrificing his own happiness for King, Country and Clan and most importantly, he's human. He's not perfect, he makes mistakes and owns up to them and when faced with losing his love to another, he's not afraid to admit he's not strong enough to live without her but will if he must. Bridgette is a marvelously strong heroine and only she will do for Lachlan. But she's also willing to sacrifice her happiness in order to please the ones she cares about most despite the fact that she wants the one man she doesn't think she will ever have. She's feisty, brave, smart and intelligent. She's not weak nor a simpering miss. There is political intrigue and a rebellious plot to be discovered, a prophecy to be fulfilled and a love like no other to be explored if it's meant to be. I love Ms. Johnstone's books. She writes what I love to read but she raised the bar a little higher, IMO, with this one. I can NOT wait to read more from this series. I received an ARC of this book for an honest review.
