    Steamy, historical vampire story

Marcello Sebastiani is on his way to his palazzo with his friend Carlo Bianchi. Marcello, a vampire, is having problems with his estate: he cannot find his birth certificate, and he could lose his home. He also confides in Carlo that maybe the Guardians of the Holy Waters – a group of vampire hunters – could be behind it. When he arrives home, Marcello notices that the front door is open, two women are sobbing: Jane Emery and her ladies’ maid, Prudence. Jane announces very theatrically that she has no place to live, since her patron for her musical studies just passed away and she cannot go back to England for personal reasons. The fact is that Jane has a secret: she is married, but then again so does Marcello: he is a vampire, and he has never really been in love. Marcello is rather taken by the fetching Jane and accepts to take her in for a little while, but their mutual attraction may make it a longer stay for Jane… Michele Hauf’s descriptions are so vivid, I felt I was sightseeing in 19th century Venice, with the gondolas and everything, and the writing from this wonderful author is as gorgeous as ever; there were a few chuckles as well, as both lead characters do possess a sense of humour, and Jane is prone to melodrama. Jane is rather brazen and adventurous, but she is a good match the Marcello, who is somewhat of a rake. I have to say I was rather surprised at the amount of sex there is in WICKED SEDUCTION, I did not quite expect it, although it was extremely well done and very tasteful. When a rather dramatic event occurred, I was wondering how the author would deal with it, how it would not end badly, and Ms. Hauf gives the story a brilliant twist for an excellent, unexpected and very exciting ending. If you like your historical romance with a little bite, very engaging characters, and a lot of steam, WICKED SEDUCTION is just the book for you! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
