  • Tough, but wonderful!

This book is pretty brutal about several viewpoints and perspectives of the Covid-19 virus. While it is fiction, the author extensively interviewed each of the viewpoints she articulates in the book. In that sense, it’s a hard read, as their respective truths were tough to get through. Picoult humanizes all of these experiences, while simultaneously writing a fictional account. At the same time, she’s writing about a love story between 3 people, which is by turns tough, tender, challenging, sweet, funny and horrific. Highly recommended!

  • A Page Turner!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Jodi Picoult writes a heartfelt and meaningful book set at the beginning of the Covid-19 Pandemic. This book captures the lives from many different perspectives of what it was like living through the unknown, unexpected and unimaginable. But is it what it seems? Jodi Picoult does it again with writing another 5 star book that keeps you guessing until the end. A book that keeps you thinking about it long after it’s finished! Definitely one to add to your TBR list. A great book club pick!

  • Wish You Were Here

Wish You Were Here is the latest story from Jodi Picoult. Diana and Finn live together in an apartment in New York City. She is an associate specialist at Sotheby's and he is a resident on his way to becoming a surgeon. They have their future all planned out. The story begins mid- March 2020 when COVID has just begun to take over the city. Ms Picoult (as always!) manages to pull on the reader's heart strings. I want to thank NetGalley and Ballantine Books for an early copy to review.

  • Amazing Book

Wish You Were Here by Jodi Picoult is an amazing book that I will not soon forget. I read this over a week ago, and the story is still stuck in my head, with no signs it will leave soon. This is a book about COVID, and some say it’s too soon, but I say, it’s just in time, and we need more books like this that illustrate the dire circumstances we are in with the pandemic. Diane O’Toole has almost everything she wants. She has the job she’s always wanted and a loving boyfriend named Finn who she’s sure is about to propose marriage on their upcoming vacation to the Galapagos Islands. Her job as an art consultant at Sotheby's is her dream job since her college days and she’s expecting a big promotion very soon. Her boyfriend Finn is a surgical resident in a NYC hospital. Just before they are set to depart for the Galapagos Islands, the virus, known as COVID-19 starts to hit New York City. The day prior to when they are set to leave for the airport, Finn tells Diane that he can’t go on vacation because his superiors at the hospital have told everyone to stay in the city because they expect the virus to get much worse. After some discussion, Diane leaves for the vacation on her own. This is one of those books where spoilers will really spoil the story, so I won’t say much more about the story, except it was gripping, intense, educational, and very emotional. As COVID is the main subject of the book, I would think some people who have really suffered during this pandemic and lost close friends and family, might find this book is out a bit too soon. I do think that it validates many of the feelings I’ve had during the pandemic, and the book definitely describes many of the horrors we’ve suffered, but it's also an optimistic book. I was afraid that when I read it would be depressing. I will admit that the author describes many of the horrors of the pandemic, but also weaves a terrific emotional story around all the losses and difficulties of the pandemic. Wish You Were Here will bring out all your emotions as you read it. Only a very talented author can write about such a devastating subject and turn it into such an uplifting story. And Jodi Picoult has proved what a talented author she is with this book. I received a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

  • Awesome!

Believe me when I tell you that I never wanted to read a book about Covid. We have heard and lived Covid for almost two years. Wish You Were Here by Jodi Picoult was a pleasant surprise. I truly thought the book would be different than it was. I enjoyed the part of the book where Diana goes to The Galopagose on her own because her boyfriend who is a doctor has to stay behind to fight the virus. She becomes stranded on the island when it and the world closes down due to Covid. She stays so long that she is no longer a tourist and is seen as a resident. Who wouldn't want to be stranded on such a beautiful place as Isabela Island? The interesting part of the book is some of the research this author has done about the after effects of Covid especially those that have been put on ventilators and survived. I love the medical facts I learn along the way in my reading journey. I know most of us want to shy away from a novel about Covid. I highly recommend reading this book. It takes us away to a dream vacation and provides some pretty interesting information. I even appreciated the author's notes at the end of the book. Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of this book. I think you'll love it and at least appreciate it. I received a complimentary copy of this book from #RandomHousePublishing-Ballentine, #Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
