  • LOVING this series!

Violet Mooney is starting to come into her powers as a witch. With her Mother and sister also in her life now, she’s got a great support system, but she still isn’t sure who all she can trust in the new world she has been introduced into. Being on the magical council, Violet finds out that she is being investigated in relation to a magical geneing that took place in her store, Full Moon crystal shop, even though it occurred before Vi knew about her powers. But when a customer who came to Vi for help turns up dead, she really needs to put her powers to good use to find out who has it in for not only her, but also for her customer. The second book in the series did not disappoint! Although I kinda hate cliffhangers and prefer each book to be able to be read as a standalone. But that’s just me…the story itself is great and I will be looking for the next entry to find out what happens with Vi and her Magical life.

  • I enjoyed it

I’m a sucker for paranormal cozies and this second book in the series is even better than the first. Interesting characters that I look forward to reading more about. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

  • WITCH TRIAL by Cate Conte

WITCH TRIAL by Cate Conte is the second book in the A Full Moon Mystery Book series. It’s the spellbinding story of Violet Mooney - as she’s discovering her powers, her crystal shop - The Full Moon, and murder. After the death of Abby, the grandmother who raised her, and having just recently been reunited with Fiona, her mom, and Zoe, her half-sister, plus finding out about being a witch, Violet Raven Moonstone is having a difficult time figuring out who she is and what she is. Having inherited powers from both her maternal and fraternal sides, the Ravenstar and the Moonstone clans, she evidently has the ability to use some yet discovered major powers. She’s found peace and purpose after her dear friend and now employee introduced her to crystals and their powers. Opening The Full Moon has brought her great joy and usefulness. Through it she has found many of her skills and powers as a witch. At the same time, it seems that her long relationship with Todd, her boyfriend, leaves a lot to be desire. Violet is thinking that breaking it off would be the best thing. She just hasn’t done it yet. We learn about Mazzy Diamond having been genied inside of Violet’s shop as it’s carried over from the first book. After her grandmother’s death, Violet was to take over her seat in the Magickal Council. Part of being approved would mean a hearing to which she will have to account for what happened to Mazzy in her shop. That’s why Fiona brought in Blake Alexander, a lawyer, to help Violet know what to expect and how to answer questions she was likely to get thrown at her. In the meantime, her friend Ginny brought Nicole St. James to her shop in need of her help. Violet senses immediately that she is scared and had something fearful hanging around her. In her way, she tries to help her, but she can’t get the feeling of doom and fear that emitted from her. After she finds out she’s missing, she’s determined to do all she can to find her. Mazzy only has three full moons to be saved from being genied before she will be locked in that form forever. Can Violet satisfy the council about what had taken place and that she had nothing to do with it while at the same time try to find answers to help her before it’s too late. After the council learns for the riff between the two, will it give them more ammunition to say she had done the deed? Will Violet find the answers in time? Was Nicole’s disappearance linked to a wrong done in the past? Will trying to find out, end up with Violet facing a similar fate? Is Violet’s relationship with Todd over? Will finding out facts about Todd be the straw that broke the camel’s back or will it just dim her opinion of someone she’s started to have thoughts about? Will Violet be able to hold her own with the Magickal Council? How will her powers develop? WITCH TRIAL is a page turning paranormal cozy mystery. There are mysteries and crimes solved in this second book of the series, but there is another that is left as a cliffhanger running so far through both books in this series. Cate Conte keeps it interesting and fun as we learn along with Violet about her family connections, the dynamics of the Magickal Council and Violet’s place in it as well as her developing powers. WITCH TRIAL can most definitely be read as a standalone book in that it isn’t hard to figure out who is who and the connections. Even figuring out the running theme between the two books wasn’t hard for me. Although I think I could have been more on track faster if I had read the first book before reading the second. That being said, I will be going back and reading the first one while I wait with anticipation for the third book in the series.
