    With My Dad

This short story brought back many memories of the first time I went with my father while he hunted. I was only about 5 or 6 years old. We lived in Brady Texas, about 60 miles from the 12,000 acre ranch my father grew up on. He also had a pickup, a black GMC with a split windshield that he used in his work as a county agricultural agent. We had driven out in the rolling terrain of the central Texas Hill Country on a rough pasture road. We then walked a short distance and came over a low ridge to spot a nice buck grazing with two doe in the distance. I was so excited as I urged my dad to take a shot that the rifle's report was anticlimactic. The shot was true and the buck fell without running. This story captured the essence of a young boy's first hunting experience with his father. It brought back many memories of my first deer hunt 60 years ago.
