    What a childhood!

I came to this book via a recommendation rather than as a fan of the music. It’s well written and easy to read, and the story kept me interested from beginning to end. While the story is very much about Barnes life, the descriptions of life in Glasgow and as an immigrant in Elizabeth are eye opening. It’s shameful to see how the immigration programme let these people down. It’s a wonder he has survived the various challenges-both self inflicted and inherited. Can’t wait to read the sequel.

What a hard book to write but well worth it- I hope it can help & inspire others. It's amazing that he has come out of it alive let alone so successful - he's a real talent & I'm sure his wife & kids proud of him.

    A great read

Can't wait until the next book. You grow up listening to someone like Jimmy and cold Chisel and it's not til your older that you realise they are people with lives and not just entities. interesting reading

    Working class boy

Omg so traumatised by your upbringing having been a huge fan all my life. Your music helped me through an abusive relationship, never knowing what you had been through and survived. Obviously you are a survivor and thanks god you found Jane and helped so many people with your music. I'm amazed that such adversity is repeated rather than rejected but that is life's conundrum. Looking forward to the next instalment. You are an incredible man

    Worthwhile

Found it hard to connect with at the beginning but was glad I stuck with it in the end
