    Zealot

This is an excellent book which is very readable and extremely well written. Its premises and topics have been covered before but always in longer and drier form. This fresh and concise presentation will impress, it was a joy to read.

    Interesting

Made you question a lot of things and encouraged you to do more research. Sometimes it was hard to keep track as it jumped all over the historical eras. I do recommend it.

    Informative and entertaining read

I am a lapsed Catholic and found this book a fascinating insight into the possible life of Jesus from a historical perspective. The author makes it very clear that - outside of the gospels - there is very little historical evidence of Jesus's existence. So what the author has done is present a perspective of the social and political environment of the time and what Jesus would have been trying to achieve. I thought the rationale of most of the authors assertions made a lot of sense. But what I probably enjoyed most about the book was gaining a much better understanding of what life was like in those times and how the centre of Christianity moved to Rome after Jesus's death and evolved into a global religion. Whether or not you believe Jesus is really the son of God, this is a great read if you are interested in learning a little more about Jesus and that time in history from a non-biblical perspective.
