    Still Love This Series

With each new installment, I find myself getting more immersed and addicted to this series. I read this book back in April of 2016, but I never got around to reviewing it. So I decided to review it, but I had to reread it to fully give my opinion. I found I still like this book, even though Kull’s rough attitude frustrated me at times. Don’t get me wrong, I still love him, and I still find him humorous, especially in regards to his love for Dr Pepper. I love that this book expanded on the background of some of the characters. Take for example, Brett. We got to see a different side of him in this story, and it made him more likeable, versus the opinion I first had of him in Dreamthief. To me, this proves that each character is multifaceted and not one dimensional, even if they are not main characters in the story. I don’t want to give too much away, but let me repeat something I’ve said before in regards to this series; each book is a surprise. In a good way. I pride myself on usually being able to guess who is the character responsible for all the bad things that happen, but I never seem to be able to do that with this series. I get close, I always guess the accomplice, but never the main person. As for Olive, I feel for her, I really do. She can’t seem to catch a break! Whether it involves saving Faythander or trying to fix her love life, it always seems that there is something causing her problems. I feel like she deserves a nice, long vacation. Bloodthorn gets 4/5 Platypires!

    Couldn't Put It Down!

I have been a fan of Tamara Grantham’s Olive Kennedy: Fairy World MD series since I picked up Dreamthief when it first came up. Her characters are so captivating and the worlds she builds so complex that it is always a joy to read installments of this series. Bloodthorn is no exception to this idea. A bit different than Dreamthief and Spellweaver, we find the main character and heroin Olive, working at a Renaissance Fair to pay her bills. Not thrilled with her job, Olive is basically doing only what is necessary to insure she have basic necessities and nothing more. Her last trip to Faythander did not go the way she had hoped, especially when it comes to her relationship with Kull. In every aspect of her life, Olive felt like a failure, and that is who she became. The story really picks up when there are some nefarious things happening around the fair grounds. People start turning up dead, but their bodies are splayed in a ritualistic manner with a different type of flower in each victim’s eye sockets. Olive can immediately feel the call of dark magic, and she is hopeful to find the killer, but she won’t return to Faythander to find him. At least, that’s what she thinks. I adore how Grantham can weave such seamless tales between two different realms. Not only that, one realm is riddled with different species, kingdoms, and customs, all of which are perfectly constructed. Never once was I distracted by the logistics of the worlds in which the story lives, which is a sign of incredible story telling. I fell in love with these characters a long time ago, but every time I read one of Grantham’s books, I am reminded just how large a grip they have on my heart. When I am reading her books, I never want them to end. When they inevitably do, I am left feeling so many different things, but the greatest of these is joy. I give Bloodthron 5 stars. This series has absolutely everything you need to create a wonderful story, and I can’t wait to read the next book!
