Enjoyable, addictive, but not perfect for me.

Actual rating: 3.5 Basically: Rock Addiction is a contemporary adult romance novel following the growing relationship after the insta-connection and love of a rock star (occasionally known as a rock god) and a librarian (who happens to be terrified of the media etc.) In detail: I adore Nalini Singh's writing, I find her work compelling and hard to put down. In the last year I have read all of the Psy-Changling series and have started the Guild Hunter series and happily read this, the first in her Rock Kiss series, however, I do have one small issue with her writing and that is how she writes the females in her relationships. This is an entirely personal view and probably won't bother the majority of people, however, if you like your relationship less traditional (hey the woman doesn't always have to 'take care' of the man and doesn't always have to do the cooking...) then I would not recommend this book to you. The Plot: If you've never read a romance novel then allow me to disillusion you, there's not that much original in terms of plot in any romance novel. Two characters typically meet, start to like one another, hit a complication, solve complication, are happy together for ever more. The biggest change is the complication and when they realise they're passionately in love. Here the main characters do suffer a bit of insta-love which I'm not the biggest fan off, but in terms of the rest of their attraction I didn't mind it too much, watching them bend their rules and discover new ones which each other was great fun. So, whilst there was nothing particularly unique or individual in terms of the plot, the story telling was cute and quite sweet. I don't read that many romance novels, especially not contemporary ones, so this wasn't too much of a problem for me nor was it something I noticed in particular. The Characters: Molly (the female protagonist) is such a cutie pie, she's a librarian and someone who appears completely ordinary. I really enjoyed reading Molly's POV and she came across as a sweet, innocent and lovely person. I always love protagonists who love reading, it makes them somehow identifiable in a way to me, if they have some hobby in common with me. And three was a lot that I felt I could relate to in terms of Molly's characterisation, her hobbies, interests etc. Fox (the male protagonist) came across as slightly arrogant and overly protective, at least to me. However, I can see the attraction tbh, and he did care for Molly and tried to make her life as easy as possible. The 'boys' as I dubbed them, or the band, aka David, Abe and Noah were pretty adorable. I like the lack of judgment from them and between them, and the family feelings were soooooo adorable. The fact they were fun (and totally accepting of Molly) made them a great addition to the book, and I loved reading the scenes they were in. Thea was pretty amazing. I loved Thea. Also Charlotte, she was epic and I want a best friend like her. Pretty please! The Relationship: This is a romance novel so I guess I should discuss the relationship or the romance. They were relatively sweet and I did have issues with the stereotypes of the relationship, but that's a personal issue. The idea that the woman should take care of the man via building him a home, and cooking him meals and all that jazz is something I am profoundly uncomfortable with, the idea the man is always dominant and in control as well. I am a control freak by nature and can't see myself giving that up for anyone, and I struggle whenever others do this when they start out more control freakish. So yeah. Personal reasons. My Thoughts: I enjoyed the book immensely, despite my issues, and I had a great time reading it. I will probably re-read my favourite parts multiple times, and I can't wait for Rock Courtship and then Charlotte and T-Rex's book, the world is fab and I love the characters even if I have issues. So yes, I would recommend this book if you don't mind the issues I've outlined above and enjoy Nalini Singh's writing style, but if you have the same objections then I would suggest reading something else instead.
