    The Breadmaker

I simply loved this book. Moira Macleod has a wonderful gift! She constructed people for us to look in on. Each time I opened the book I followed her to a place where she laid bare life and the intertwined paths it takes. Complicated lives despite it being supposedly "simpler times". Sometimes, because I got so involved with the characters, I even felt like I was intruding. That was really nice; and very rare piece of writing, to make the reader feel so attached to the characters. The setting of the coal town was familiar to me. But this could have been anywhere in that period. The story was set in, but not about, a small struggling town. Rather, it was a story about people. People who were confronted by some of the same challenges that endure today. The crests of anguish and the troughs of joy . It was a story of coping. Some were heroes and some were cowards, but that is how they coped! Each in their own way. You felt it! That is what Moira MacLeod did best, she made you live the struggles and emotions. Funny enough, when I was finished the book, I wished my own mother was alive to read it; so, I guess it is about family, too! The book is a gift. Read it!!

    Warm

This was a great story. Lots of twists and turns. The characters are realistic and the reader can easily connect to them.

    A wonderful journey.

The Bread Maker was a great read from beginning to end. The writing captured my imagination as I watched Mabel's story unfold before me. I loved my ereader version so much that I am gifting hard copies for Christmas. Hard to believe this is a first novel!
