    Hooked from the first page!

Shannon Stacey is an auto-buy author for me. I fell in love with her stories with her Kowalski series and am just as hooked on her Boston Fire series 2 books in. I really loved Rick from the moment he appeared on the page. He is super protective of all his friends and especially the Broussards, who are his landlords. He truly cares for and about them, which only made me love him more. Add in the fact that he has remained friends with so many of his ex-girlfriends, which shows what a nice guy he really is, and he is one of my favorite heroes. While I didn't love Jessica the minute she appeared on the page, I kept an open mind about her from the beginning. I was so mad at her father for keeping her away from her grandparents all those years and loved seeing her become more open the more time she spent in Boston. I think she was always pretty strong, but really felt like until she came to Boston, she didn't have the gumption to stand up to her father and really make him talk about her grandparents and even why her mother left her when she was so young. Honestly Jessica ended up being one of my favorite characters from the series so far. I really loved Jessica’s relationship with her grandparents. While it built slowly at first, I loved that she kept coming up with reasons to stay in Boston to be with them. Since I was raised down the street from my grandparents, I can’t imagine not meeting mine until I was an adult. I loved how close they all grew so quickly. I adored Rick and Jessica as a couple. I loved that they kept kissing and saying they weren't going to do it again. Totally cracked me up. They had such amazing chemistry both in and out of bed. Yes things were bumpy in the beginning since Rick was so protective of Jessica's grandparents, but I think that only made Jessica fall for him a little bit faster. I worried for a bit when they tried the long distance relationship, because being on different coast is pretty hard, but I knew in my heart their love was strong enough to make the relationship work. Controlled Burn hooked me from the first page. All I wanted to do was read until I could finish the book. Now I'm ready for my next fix in the Boston Fire series.

lovely romance in the second in the series

This is the second story in the Boston Fire series (all standalone) and is about Rick, the guy whom no-one thinks will ever settle down with one woman, and Jessica. Jessica is the heretofore unknown granddaughter of Rick's landlord's Marie and Joe, who makes a trip to Boston to meet them when she handles a message for their estranged son (her dad) about a medical problem. Her dad is still on their contact list even though he's had no interaction with them in years, and Jess decides that she wants to meet them. What she doesn't expect is to meet Rick, and share an instant attraction to him. The situation is awkward at first, but eventually their chemistry takes over and a fling ensues. But Jess's life is in San Diego - can Rick convince her that he'd be worth staying for? I always enjoy Shannon's stories, because they they are (for me anyway) heartwarming, low angst lovely romances and this one is no exception. Rick and Jess are rightfully wary of each other at the start, and it takes a bit of time to build up the trust between them. For all Rick knows, Jess could be there to fleece her newfound grandparents, and as far as Jess is concerned, Rick might be out to do the same. But it becomes obvious pretty quickly that they are both decent and friendly people (not to mention attractive to each other). Though getting involved with her grandparent's tenant is a mistake for Jess, especially because she doesn't plan to stay, she can't help but give in to that attraction. Their love scenes are smolderingly sexy, and deepen the connection between them. Jess's father David is a bit of an enigma - he has cut off all contact with his parents for several reasons (none of which he ever shared with Jess until now) and Jess is torn between her loyalty to the man who raised her and his parents who are not at all the way she's been told they are. The scenes with Rick and his firefighter comrades add some great camaraderie as well as action scenes (it is a firefighter book after all) that move the plot along and add just the right amount of tension. There are bumps in the road for Jess and Rick as they navigate their new relationship and whether a long distance affair is possible. My one complaint was that the ending felt rushed - it's kind of a happy for now one, but there were a few too many unanswered questions for me. I kept trying to turn the page on my ereader, thinking I'd somehow missed a chapter or an epilogue! So with that in mind, it's a 3.5 stars for me. I hope that the next story in the series will answer some of those questions.

    Loved it!!

I was so excited to return to Boston Fire, and it did not disappoint me. A beautiful slow building romance between Rick and Jessica. How can you not fall in love with Rick, a sexy fireman and a tenant to Jessica's elderly grandparents, who will do anything for them. Jessica comes to Boston to help her grandparents, whom she has never met. I so enjoyed the bonding between Jessica and her grandmother. The biggest problem between Jessica and Rick, is that they live on opposite coasts. Can they survive a long distant relationship? Fireman are a true Brotherhood, once again. I highly recommend this book, it is book two but a completely stand alone book. I was great to see some of the characters from the first book though. I received this book from netgalley for an honest review.

    Loved it!

A wonderful contemporary romance in the Boston Fire series. While this is book 2 in the series, it is a stand alone novel. In fact, it is the first book I've read in the series or by the author, but it will not be the last. This novel follows Rick as he meets his landlords' granddaughter - the granddaughter that they didn't know they had. Jess, the granddaughter, seems to be at cross purposes with Rick despite their intense attraction to each other. The author made me care about the characters and feel invested in their outcome. If you are looking for a contemporary romance that will captivate you, you have it in Controlled Burn
