    Fantastic read

I can’t believe this is a debut novel! Evo is so complex, so filled with action and twists and turns that you literally find it difficult to put it down. Don’t get started on the last bit of the book in the evening or you won’t get much sleep that night. Not that you’ll mind.

    Page-turner.

Fast-paced and engaging, it makes for an easy but totally interesting read. Loved the “reveal”, totally unexpected.

    Hooked right from the start

I bought the book because I wanted to find another crime/thriller author and decided to take a chance on an emerging writer. I’m happy to say it was worth it. First of all, it’s not your usual serial killer novel, but a fresh take on an old story. The Hypnotist kills through hypnosis and this really blew me away as it’s not something I’ve read before. The twist at the end is a reaveal inside another reveal and it kept me awake and thinking a few hours after I had finished reading the book. There’s humour and love in it too, but nothing too sappy which is something I really liked. The female character is a bit too much at times, but maybe it’s because I’m used to reading authors like David Baldacci, Lee Child and Michael Connelly and their female characters are tough and independent. Another thing which I found unexpected and brilliant at the same time was how the author managed to turn one character from villain to hero without making it feel artficial or forced. I’m not gonna say who because I don’t want to spoil it for other readers. Bottom line: great read, lots of unexpected turns, don’t start reading the last 100 pages or so in the evening if you plan on sleeping that night too, looking forward to another book by this author.

A gripping thriller with an intriguing topic!

I finished reading this book last night (late!) and although I may not want to read it again, I found it so gripping as to be hard to put down (hence the late night reading!). The short description the book has here is not all there is, as the story is much more complex than that (several seemingly independent threads which all tie in really nicely at the end) and it will surprise you more than once. The story takes place nowadays, with several flashbacks (one of them being chapter 1) which are well-written and not too many as to make it difficult to follow the story. One of the three main plots is the police investigation of the serial killer murdering doctors, and the way he does it is something I’ve never seen in a book before: he seems to hypnotize his victims into dying of heat stroke. I was curious to see how the author would explain this at the end, and although I never expected the explanation she gave, I must say I found it believable (and scary at the same time). The other two plots are: a secret agent working for a very secretive agency who’s trying to prevent a biological terrorist attack from happening; the main female character who steals a black notebook and that makes her the target of a very ruthless billionaire. The way they all come together at the end is unexpected, but coherent. Another thing I really loved about this book is that it is full of twists and turns and just when you thought you knew where the story was going you discover you were dead wrong. And I also loved the ending. Truly mind-blowing! And it leaves you thinking. What if that were to really happen?
