    Simple and sweet

I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review. I am not really into sports romances but I read the previous two in the series and enjoyed them enough to request the third. I shouldn’t have, because I loathe romances where the only reason the couple is reluctant to be with each other is due to their lack of communication. It drives me crazy when people can’t be open and upfront with others right off the bat. However, I was excited to read Duncan’s story. We are introduced to him earlier in the series so it was a treat to see him get his HEA. I will say that the characters have their own strengths and flaws. I loved the country boy side of Duncan but sometimes I just wanted to strangle the both of them. This is another series that I feel gets better with each installment. I feel that both the writing and the storytelling improved. I thought the couple worked well together. However, the story didn’t wow me overall. It was a simple sweet read.

    Amazing

This one was amazing! I just adored Duncan and though Amber was his perfect match. In his past relationships he's always felt more like an ATM than a boyfriend. Tired of being used for his fame and money, he swears off women. Of course that doesn't last long. As soon as he meets Amber he knows she different. The more he tries with her though the more it seems she is pushing him away and he has no idea why. That is until he learns who her father is and how he has always treated Amber and her mother. With this understanding he starts working to slowly tear down the walls she has around her heart. A great story and while technically a "hockey romance", hockey really takes a backseat in this story. Definitely a book I recommend.

    Fun, Sweet, Quick Read

I loved it! The characters are all great, and I love that there is humor throughout the story. I know some readers may be frustrated with Amber's inability to accept help; she's very hung-up on being independent, but I liked most other aspects about her, so that didn't bother me too much. Duncan is adorable and such a sweetheart! I also liked that there are glimpses of the couples from the previous books. Amber is working 2 part-time jobs to pay for school, and to help her mother out, so she doesn't have very much extra cash, and she has had a difficult time with her parents; especially her dad, so she doesn't want to depend on anyone for anything. Since Amber works so much and has school, she feels that she doesn't have enough time to give to a boyfriend, so she has been steering clear of being in a relationship. Duncan is a pro hockey player, who has recently broken up with someone because they were using him for his money, so he is weary of getting into another relationship. Duncan and Amber have an almost instant connection, but they both have their hang-ups about relationships; Amber doesn't have time and doesn't want to date a pro athlete, and Duncan because of the whole being used for money and fame thing. Luckily, they can't really resist each other, and they quickly fall into a relationship, but both are having trouble going all in with each other. I enjoyed the love scenes; sexy and spicy! And I liked that Amber and Duncan spent a good amount of time doing other things together besides just hooking up, it shows more depth to their relationship. I liked the hockey stuff, and I was actually surprised how much the author goes into it; there was a few pages about Duncan playing in a game, but I didn't mind it; it was fun, and I enjoyed the scenes with the other hockey players. I will definitely read the next book in the series! Fun, sweet, and heartfelt!

    Loved this Aces Hockey story!

Kelly Jamieson scores with this latest hockey romance in her Aces Hockey series! As always, she's got a wonderful grasp on the game itself, with live action hockey scenes that are descriptive but not overwhelming for those not familiar with the rules. Since Amber, the heroine, is also a newbie to hockey, it's a cute way to teach the reader a little bit about the game by coaching it as lessons for her. Duncan comes across as an aggressive player on the ice but laid-back, and definitely less alpha when he's not playing the game. He's had his share of women using him for his money, so when he meets Amber, a new waitress at their local hangout (owned by a hockey playing friend), the fact that she's got no idea who he is definitely puts her in the plus box. They've got a few hurdles to cross before they get their happy ending though - for reasons slowly revealed through the story, Amber has a definitely negative view of sports celebrities. And since Duncan's last girlfriend was a high maintenance model, when Duncan finds out that Amber is making ends meet with modelling jobs while waitressing and going to school, he's not quite sure what to think. Fortunately Duncan's character quickly shines through and he's nothing like Amber expects - and ditto for Duncan when it's made clear that Amber wants her independence and doesn't like to rely on anyone else's money or favours. They share a steamy attraction to each other that makes for some downright dirty love scenes between them, putting this in the erotic romance category in my eyes. With its combination of bromances (Duncan's player buddies are all over his new relationship with Amber), family dynamics (scenes involving his sister Lovey, the heroine of book 1 in the series) and a sexy romance, it was an entertaining and very enjoyable read. 4.5 stars.
