    There are limits

This is book 1.5 in the Aces Hockey series. This book can easily be read as a standalone. It can also be read as part of the series, and it is very nice to connect it all up. Everything just makes more sense when you read a series and enjoy it in order. Jenna McFadden and Andrew Ross have been fighting an attraction since they were in their teens. He moved in with the family after his mother died, and was told in clear terms to stay away from her. The attraction is just so strong for them both! Jenna has been avoiding going home for fear of running into him again. She does not want him to find out he is the standard she holds all men up to. When she comes home with a boyfriend, her whole family is wondering why? Andrew has always wanted Jenna. He has forced himself to think of her as a sister. It only works until he looks at her. She just steals his breath. He needs to find a way to fix this. I thought this was a great addition to the series. I loved the banter and sexy times! The book was a definite keeper for my shelf! ***This ARC copy was given by Netgalley.com and its publisher in exchange for an honest review.

    Excellent

Loved this story! While it may be the typical brother's best friend trope with a twist, the excellent storytelling of the author and the great characters she created made this book a notch above the others. I could feel the conflict Andrew had between going for happiness with Jenna and the fear of losing the only family he really has. Jenna and Andrew's chemistry could be felt through the pages. There simply was no denying it and the family's reaction was perfect. This is a great read and one I will be recommending to everyone.

Second Chance Love Story During the Holidays

This was great! First off, it takes place during Christmas, which I totally love stories during the holidays, and I also love second chance romances, so this was a terrific read for me. Jenna and Andrew were adorable together, and I appreciated that Jenna wasn't throwing herself at Andrew like he was god; she was her own person. I like that they've known each other for a long time, and since they had excellent chemistry, their love scenes were steamy, and I liked the scenes in the book; like the ice skating, and I liked that hockey was involved with this book. This was a short book, and since I loved it. I would have liked more in the ending, but this story did feel complete to me. This was the first book I read in the series, and I don't feel like I couldn't enjoy this story without having read the first book, but there were characters from the first book in this one, so you may want to check out the first book; I know I will be, and I also look forward to more books in this series. I really enjoyed the writing and the way the story progressed. This was a sweet, cute, and fun romance, and I loved it!

    Sexy friends to lovers story!

This sexy novella, part of the Aces Hockey series, is the story of Jenna and Andrew. When Andrew's family life fell apart as an older teen he was taken in by Jenna's family and Jenna kept her crush on him well hidden. Once in college they shared a steamy night together, but they both decided it was best if it didn't happen again, with both of them unsure of what her family would think about them having a relationship. But three years later, their feelings for each other, while being put on the backburner, haven't ever really gone away and when Jenna shows up with a new boyfriend at her family Christmas (in hopes of trying yet again to get Andrew out of her system), Andrew is thrown to discover his feelings for her are just as strong as ever. Can they find a way to make this Christmas the one with the best gift ever? I really enjoyed this story, told in first person from both Jenna and Andrew's points of view. It's clear from the start that Jenna's boyfriend isn't the one for her (it's a fairly new relationship) and nothing happens between her and Andrew until after he's out of the picture (so no cheating to worry about). We get a flashback scene to their steamy night in college together and I was happy to see that it was a mutual decision on their parts at that time to keep it between themselves and go their separate ways (as opposed to one or the other being made to feel bad about what happened). They were both mature individuals who made the decision together, even if secretly they knew they would have liked to continue the relationship. Instead they kept their distance from each other until finally being together again in the family home for the holidays. I liked Jenna's family who ensure a warm and caring environment and the camaraderie between all of them made for some humorous and lighthearted moments. As Andrew is a player for the Chicago Aces we do get a little hockey (though not much as the majority of the story takes place over the holidays) and a scene with him and his teammates that gives a good hint as to another story upcoming in the series. When Andrew and Jenna decide to pursue a relationship no matter what her family thinks, we get some steamy scenes between them, and a deep and intimate connection. I also appreciated that the angst level in the story was low, giving us a fun, overall lighthearted romance. 4 stars.

Some passions burn too hot to be smothered.

⭐ ⭐ Provided by Netgalley in Exchange for an Honest Review ⭐ ⭐ Judging a Book by it's Cover: Nondescript is the word that comes to mind when looking at this cover. Bland, even. Shirtless male again solid, plain background. Nothing to make it stand out and catch the eye. The synopsis was what caught my interest. Looking Deeper: Andrew is the perfect combination of brother's best friend and unofficial foster or step-brother. Jenna had been half in love with him before her parents even took him in to live with them. A weekend of weakness five years ago was the only time they'd given in to the forbidden and never spoke of it again. But some passion burn too hot to be smothered. The secondary characters are just as important in the story as the leads, with terrific dialogue and interaction. With the chemistry burning this bright, it makes me wonder how her brothers and Emily never caught on. But his fears and her insecurities tend to hold them both back until it's almost too darn late. The plot is pretty good, considering the short length of the book. The ease of flow was fantastic, I was able to read it in one sitting without needing to step away from it for a break. The conflicts were there, but they managed to work them out. Predictability was low. The conclusion wraps up well enough, but I did find myself disappointed in not knowing the reactions of her brothers and what became of the house afterall. Even though this is a holiday novella inserted into an already-begun series (which I'd NOT read the first book of), I felt it was able to stand on it's own quite well and I believe that the epilogue hinted at which player would receive the next book in the series. Overall, it was a hot little holiday number that made a quick, steamy read. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rating: 4.25 [R] ~ Score: 4.3 ~ Stars: 4 -------------------------------------------------------------------------
