  • Holy angst-filled, crazy-amazing book!

Wow! Just wow! Skye Warren continues to surprise me with her unique ability to tell a story that sucks you in from the very beginning, puts you through the wringer and leaves you forever changed by the end. Overture was particularly thrilling and kept me on the edge of my seat. I was dying to know what happened next (as evidenced by the all-nighter I pulled without any regrets), but totally dreaded coming to the end. And oh what an end it was! I feel like an addict waiting for Concerto to make its debut and craving my next fix of Skye Warren-y goodness. The forbidden romance between Samantha, a child-prodigy who despises that term for its juvenile connotation, and Liam, her non-related overprotective legal guardian, is an inevitability that both try desperately to fight, believing everything society tells them is wrong about their feelings. As Samantha nears her eighteenth birthday legally making her an adult, she becomes more confident in her feelings, while Liam fears that day only brings more heartache and complications for the pair. Samantha is more than just a legal responsibility to him, but she can never know the depth of his feelings because he believes his past makes him innately unworthy of her innocence. Samantha has her work cut out for her trying to prove to him that while age is just a number her emotional adulthood began many years before her eighteenth birthday. While the two navigate their pasts and the demons who haunt their presents they must confront their relationship as both guardian/ward and man/woman, and more complicated than both before Samantha heads out on a world tour that will separate them even further. Skye loves to throw in little tidbits and characters from previous novels she's written and she doesn't disappoint with her references to the Tanglewood stories of yesteryear. If you're looking for a follow-up while we wait for Concerto then make sure to read Escort, which is the story of Bea and Hugo. I'm so excited for Concerto I don't know how I'll stand the wait! I highly recommend you pick up a copy of Overture today. You won't be disappointed.

  • Deeply beautiful forbidden romance

***“He isn’t a regular guardian and you aren’t a regular ward. So why should your feelings be the same as other people?”*** Violin prodigy, Samantha Brooks, is about to turn eighteen; old enough to make her own decisions, leave the nest, and perform on a world tour. But she will be leaving her guardian, Liam North, behind and that is what makes this coming of age so bittersweet. Because Samantha and Liam are in love, but only one of them is ready to acknowledge it. This is probably my twelfth Skye Warren book (solo authorship) and the first 5 star rating. She really, truly knocks it out of the park on this one! Her hero and heroine have such depth and magnetism. At age thirty four, Liam North is owner and head of a large private paramilitary security firm. Liam is cool, controlled, damaged, unreachable, and very Alpha. He and his brothers lived through childhood abuse to build the family of tough and dedicated warriors that they now command. The seriousness with which Liam treats his responsibility for their lives is the antithesis of the little regard he has for his own. At almost age eighteen, Samantha Brooks is an uncanny blend of experience and innocence. She grew up with a callous and neglectful single father. Her early childhood was spent either fending for herself or trying desperately to win his approval through practicing her instrument. At the age of twelve, she was orphaned and became Liam’s ward. Thereafter, his overprotectiveness knew no bounds. She is both innocent of the adult world and yet a strong personality who knows exactly who she wants. Their story has everything I love: their longing for each other is so blatant that my gut aches for feeling it, their words carry so much hurt that it is painful to read them, and their lust is so erotic that ... well, you know. There are loyal supporting characters and no other woman/other man. Truly my dream read!

  • A Touch Taboo

Overture is the first book in the new series North Securities and what a way to begin what looks to be a very intense and at times taboo series Liam and Samantha - I am a bit speechless when it comes to these two. Taboo takes on a whole new meaning He is her guardian - She is his temptation - The forbidden flower that has blossomed What happens when the universe allows for a brief taste of the forbidden? When for a moment in time there is No right, No wrong, only the chance to indulge your cravings without shame? An Overture is created - One that will rival the greatest compositions ever composed Be warned this may cause a sense of unease followed by moments of apprehension and bursts of angst - Oh and let us not forget the taboo romance that will melt the coldest of hearts This does end on a cliffy - No tantrums
