    Another fabulous read ...

Another fabulous read from the ever creative mind of Darcy Burke. I received an ARC of The Duke of Daring in exchange for an honest review. Emotion guided Lucinda. Ms. Burke broke the mold for strong female heroines with Lucinda. Heart was the driving force behind every move she made. Despite numerous disappointments and loads of weighty responsibilities she never just let life happen to her. Sure she experienced hard knocks but she picked herself up and made the best of the circumstances. Her sense of adventure landed her in sticky situations but it also showed how dedicated she was to her family and how far she was willing to go to succeed in taking care of the people she loved. Andrew was the opposite. Heartache drove him to take risks. Death, loneliness and despair had beaten this man down to the point where he had no heart left. These two total opposites may not have much in common but did have lessons to teach each other. The Duke of Daring is a story of healing, strength and emotional self discovery that culminates into a romance filled with deep meaning and well crafted imagination.

4.5 Stars 'The Duke of Daring' by Darcy Burke is book two in "The Untouchables' series. This is the story of Lucinda Parnell and Andrew Wentworth, Earl of Dartford. Lucy didn't have a successfully time on her debut and now she is settled in the thought of staying unmarried. At one club she runs into Andrew who catches on to her and that she is a women. Andrew is called Lord of Daring among her and her friends for all his risk that he takes. But Lucy is surprised when he offers to help her with her goal to keep her safe. Andrew lost his family at a early age and that has put him in a restless manor, but he is surprised of his feelings for Lucy and wanting to keep her safe. A high flying adventure.

Miss Lucinda Parnell is an independent lady who wishes to retire to Bath with her Grandmama, must go through great lengths to acquire the funds to make her goals a reality. With the skills learned at her father’s knee, she dons a gentlemanly disguise and plays her hand at games of chance at establishments no proper lady should be. Andrew Wentworth, Earl of Dartford, has embraced danger and risk filled activities to distract him from fully mourning the loss of his family. In keeping people at arm’s length, he saves himself from suffering further losses. What happens when two people, who are content to live happily unattached, bump into each other? Fate intervenes and wreaks havoc on all their best laid plans. Darcy Burke’s second installment to The Untouchable Series is an amazing rollercoaster of emotions. I loved that Miss Parnell is very much an unconventional female, who is more comfortable with manly pursuits than needlepoint and the finer aspects of tittering. The Duke of Daring posed one of the greatest dilemmas that a bookworm faces: wanting to finish a book and yet not want the story to end. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.

Another Great One from Darcy Burke

Andrew Wentworth, Earl of Dartford, was very young when he lost his entire family. Not wanting to feel that sense of helplessness and pain watching those he loved die, Andrew vowed never to fall in love nor marry. He spent the years since avoiding his family home, keeping everyone at arm’s length, and pursuing dangerous activities (this last earning him the nickname “The Duke of Daring” by a trio of wallflowers). After the life she has been relegated to since the death of her gambler of a father, Lucinda “Lucy” Parnell vows to never marry, never trust a man and to rely only on herself. This latter is what has her involved in her latest scheme – trying to make money so she can retire to the country with her grandmother. A scheme that is going along well until someone sees through her disguise. A partnership formed, for one it’s the thrill of something different (not to mention the intrigue of his partner) and for the other it’s a matter of making their own choice in their survival. What remains to be seen is if one can convince the other that it’s okay to trust and okay to love. I thoroughly enjoyed this second story in The Untouchable series by Darcy Burke. Ms. Burke’s writing draws the reader in where they can feel each character’s emotion, from Lucy’s dislike of the male species to Andrew’s despair when memories come flooding in and everything in between. Be prepared to laugh at Lucy and Andrew’s antics as she tries to gather the funds she needs to crying when Andrew can’t keep the memories away. Andrew’s moment of realization that what he’s been fighting all these years has happened anyway will have the tears flowing.
