I'm at a lost for words

I'm at a lost of words. Which is kind of the irony, since this book does so well stitching together words, imagery and concepts to create a novella that breaks through the traditional mold of western fantasies. The Black Tides of Heaven is a story where you follow Akeha from childhood to adulthood. It's a story of self discovery, love (though not as much emphasis on romantic love, and of fate and choices. It's well paced, carefully crafted, and reads silky smooth with gorgeous prose that will satisfy anyone with appreciation for the english language. I just can't get enough of it! If I had to name one fault with this story, it was how the time jumps in Akeha's life was jarring. From one part, he's barely a young adult, and then before you know it, he's in his thirties. In a way, it takes away from his character development. On the other hand, there's enough bits and pieces for you to fill in the blank. As mostly an M/M reader, I will have to warn that romance is not the forefront of this novella. However, I would recommend The Black Tides of Heaven to any fan of fantasy, regardless if you're a M/M fan or not. Because what JY Yang created is simply divine, unique and so so worth it.
