    The Bride Who Got Lucky

I have just found another new author in Janna. She has given us a serious story line and people. It is a way to show us from that era. Nicholas is an Earl and his father has shunned him. He will make more money than his father. Now Emma is grieving that her best friend has died but Emma knows her husband murdered her. She is angry that no one will help her to prove it. Emma goes alone to prove it. Nick is her friend and is solitary. He saves her. But is caught and they have to marry. Emma is stick-to-it kind of person. She is starting a bank for women. Nick will help her but not for people who didn't help when he was young. Now his father wants to see him. I liked this book. But there is one spot that almost made me to stop reading but I kept on reading and was glad I did! There are lots of spoilers in this story. Please don't let this book get away! Enjoy reading this book!

    Love the Strong Female Character!

I received an ARC from NetGally. I did enjoy the story and loved how strong the female character was. She realized her weakness in certain areas and acknowledged them to a point without denial in Portsmouth. I loved Nick, his faults and all. Her family was a hoot to read about as well. The reason for this not being a 5 star was her almost fanatical actions all related to Lena's death. I get that she felt responsible and couldn't get over it until justice was done, but the actions she took almost speak of someone needing serious counseling and she never got it.

    Historical Romance

The Bride Who Got Lucky by Janna MacGregor The Cavensham Heiresses #2 Nick has pretty much been abandoned by his father from birth and sent to boarding school with few memorable trips home since he was five. At fifteen there is an encounter with his father that marks and changes him. He does alright for himself but the cost to his emotional wellbeing is severe. Emma is a “lady” but has dreams of having the freedoms a man has – including choosing her spouse and going into business. She gets herself into a number of pickles that made me question her ability to think things through and also made me wonder how she circumvented family to get to the places she went. The romance between Nick and Emma began when she was 22 but didn’t come to fruition till she was 25. There were encounters and a kiss or two with Nick being sent to follow her by friends and family to keep Emma from getting into trouble. That doesn’t work entirely but he does his best. In addition to the romance and the characters backstories there is a friend that Emma is trying to avenge and that storyline plays throughout the book. The story was a solid read but, to me, did not seem highly believable. I liked both characters but often wondered if what they were doing and saying in the story would really happen. I liked the comeuppance of the bad guy and a reveal that happened toward the end of the story as it provided a way forward for the couple. I am not sure what will happen in book three but believe it will have to do with a client of Emma’s bank and one of her brothers. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Paperbacks for the ARC – This is my honest review. 3-4 Stars

    An Entertaining Read.

Nicholas St. Mauer, the Earl of Somerton has worked very hard to make his own fortune. The ton might look down on him for going into trade, but it means everything to him to succeed. Lady Emma Cavensham is desperately sad over the death of her best friend. She blames herself for not protecting her. She is determined never to marry and lose control over her life. Both our hero and heroine have very strong ideas on what they expect from themselves and their lives. Unfortunately for our heroine women of her time don't always get a choice. This is quite an emotional story where you will be totally drawn in to the characters lives. I expect there will be other stories to follow because the secondary characters we met are well worth hearing more from. A thoroughly entertaining read.

    Different regency romance

This Regency Romance was very different from all others I've read. Emma was a fighter for women. Her best friend Lena died and she's convinced it was at the hands of her friend's villain husband. She wants him brought to justice. She also is a champion for those women that have been left destitute because of their lower class station compared to the males. She vows she will never marry because of the way husbands treat their wives. Nicholas has been a self made man. His father kicked him out when he was barely out of his teens with just the clothes he had on. He swore he would work hard until he had amassed more money and wealth than his father. He was taken in by Alex, cousin in law to Emma. Alex helped him get a good start and Nick worked hard and made his own dreams come true. He also said he would never marry. Because of the family connection by marriage, Emma and Nick found themselves together many times at dinners and balls. The way they interact shows a great deal of the way a man and woman should treat each other. Not in the way a man in the Regency Era treated a woman or wife, like a possession or a property. Emma can't get rid of her grief or guilt until justice is done for Lena. How she goes about it and how Emma and Nick's lives get changed makes for a great read full of relationships, emotions, and even a gentleman's duel. My only issue with the novel was a little too much graphic intimacy and a few words that could be expressed a little differently. That's why I gave it a four star instead of a five. I received this ARC from the author/publisher and was not required to write a review.
