    Sisters By Choice

We get the chance to go back to Blackberry Island and we get to know these cousins in real life but they really are more like sisters. They are as different as can with different problems but when reality comes calling they pull together. I really enjoyed this one and not going to give anything away since I really want you to pick it up and form your own opinions. It is not a romance, it is a woman's lit, and it is fantastic.

Not at all what I expected!

This is book 4 in the Blackberry Island series and it features cousins, Sophie, Kristine and Heather. Sophie is a mess! She has major issues with being in a relationship because of her past. She’s got an unnatural OCD with running her multi million dollar cat supply empire, which is REALLY strange. Even though she hires people to run certain departments, she can’t seem to stop interfering with their jobs. Kristine just wants to open her own bakery after being a stay at home mom and wife for so long. Her husband was really a jerk about it all. Heather just wants to live life for herself instead of taking care of her totally able-bodied mother, Amber. Amber is an awful person. She’s rude, entitled like no one I’ve ever seen and just wants to be taken care of, even though she is 100% able to take care of herself. I think I liked only one character in the whole book and that was Kristine. The family dynamics were interesting but the romance was horrible and made ZERO sense. It probably would have been better with no romance at all. I’m a big fan of this author but this book was a HUGE let down for me.

    Good story.

I loved the characters in this story. Sophie has a big heart, is hardworking and hardheaded. After a disaster, she went home to Blackberry Island and found so much more than she bargained for. Kristine has always known she wanted to be a wife and mother. She married her high school sweetheart right after graduation. Now she has a husband and three boys who would be content to keep everything just as it has always been. Kristine wants to open a bakery and has received strong opposition from her husband. Will she lose him over this? Heather just wants to go to college, but her mom is a professional victim and Heather has been taking care of her mom for years. Will she break away? Good story.

    Big Life Issues

Sisters by Choice by Susan Mallery Blackberry Island #4 Mixed feelings on this book. The writing was excellent and the issues believable but I really had trouble relating to some of the characters and the issues they were facing. I think that it might have been too laden with negative issues that had to be dealt with and provided too little happiness and light to be one of my favorite books by this author. My thoughts: * Amber was awful – she was petty petulant and perfectly horrid in her way of treating everyone and that included her daughter * Sophie was hard to relate to – she was driven, unable to trust, a micromanager and rather immature – wasn’t sure what Dugan saw in her * Kristin had a dream – organized, efficient, great mom and wife but unfulfilled. Pursuing her dream had the potential of derailing all she held dear – was it worth it? * Heather was trapped – her mother the mooch took and took and kept her tied down – would she ever get away? Jaxsen – flawed but Kristine loved him and he loved her – if he could get his head screwed on straight and then communicate with Kristin – well – they might have a future that was better than their previous years together * Dugan – a hunk and a half – really do not see what he saw in Sophie but liked him as a book boyrfriend * Supporting characters were great: Maggie, Eliot, Tina, Bear, the three sons of Christine, Lily & Mrs. Bennett. * I think I was expecting a more upbeat story...and this left me a bit unsettled. Did I enjoy this book? Yes & No Why no? It didn’t make me happy...left me feeling unsettled with a HFN feel at the end Would I read more by this author? Yes Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin - Mira for the ARC – This is my honest review. 4-5 Stars

Full of Emotions and Family Drama

This was a hard book to put down, so full of emotion and family drama. The story centers around four women that are cousins in Blackberry Island. By the way, I just love this little island. Sophie looses her business, CK in a fire and decides to relocate to Blackberry Island to expand her business, she is use to micromanaging but soon finds out this will no longer work. He one big love is her business and the love of cats but is afraid to open her heart to anyone else, including Dugan. Kristine, has been perfect wife/mother and bakes on the side but now wants more. She wants to open her own bakery. But will it be her marriage or life long dream of owning her own bakery? Amber, oh what a mess she is!! She is the first of always saying why me and oh pitty me! She just needs to grow up. I must say, I did not like Amber. Heather, Amber's daughter is the one I felt for. She gave up her life for her mother and always had a hard time saying no. But now her dream is to go away to college and living her dream. I think we can relate to all of these women at some time of our life's, hopefully not to much of Amber though. We all need to take a chance and be brave for change to happen.
