    Along came a spider

This book is very good. I have seen the movie but the book is far superior. The author took his time to write about the situations of African Americans in a sensitive and factual way.

    Agonizing

A modern day, realistic tale of the sadistic acts that are becoming more of the norm. James Patterson sets a realistic setting with very believable characters. The books reads very easily. It’s difficult to put down. I would definitely recommend this book.

    Good, but a bit predictable

I don't want to spoil it but I did see this coming before I got halfway through it. Still really enjoyed it though. Kept a small measure of doubt in me until the end.

    Keeps you wanting more

Great book! Patterson keeps you on your toes. You instantly want to see Cross succeed. You understand him.

    3 stars

My first foray into Patterson's work, I can say this book kept me intrigued. I will get this part out of the way though, as it's not really reflective of the book itself; I am not a fan of 1st person narrative. Never really have been. All of Alex Cross's scenes are 1st person, so it was a little hurdle for me to overcome. Not the book's fault though. There are scenes in this book, however, that are portrayed a little too neatly. Although some of the twists were great, the reasons around them as the book neared it's end were just to coincidental. It's too easy for characters to 'just happen' to stumble across something, or turn out to really be a certain way just for the plot's sake to carry forward. The story is a little dated too. One character in particular has a certain point of view, politically speaking, which they never waver on. It's an outdated way of thinking, and actually outright self-segregating, which is unfortunate. A completely unhealthy way to look at things, and it doesn't help that their opinion turned out to be 'justified', because of those same coincidental plot moves I mentioned. The situation of Maggie Rose kept me hooked though, always wanting to know where she was when no other characters seemed to know. The result was a little anticlimactic, but the journey there definitely kept me turning the pages. The concept of Gary Soneji/Murphy was great as well, I just wish there'd been more utilization of him. Overall it was entertaining, and enough to get me to check out the next book/rest of series.
