    a soul-shattering masterpiece

Dark Alpha’s Hunger is a soul-shattering masterpiece that gifted me a glimpse into a breathtaking world of brilliant fantasy and heart transforming love. This is gold standard of storylines that will shatter your world of just fantasy and rocket you into a realm of the magnificently gifted! What a precious and priceless gift from the out of this world creative and heart transforming author that every romance and fantasy reader absolutely NEEDS to experience and savor. Donna Grant is a fabulous story teller who has made me a devoted fan for life! Thea’s life is one of deeply quiet solitude. The only thing that makes her heart feel and her soul soar is her music. It is her only solace in world where she is truly alone. One day her world changes in the blink of an eye. Following a life-long impulse, she ushers a dark and devastating stranger into the world and her very life. She gets more than she ever bargained for, and her heart will lead her on a journey that would leave most broken and shivering in the corner. Only her utter determination will keep her alive and push her into a world that few know of and even fewer survive. This new world of stirring and passionate fantasy will leave your heart wrung out and your mind pleasantly spinning in a haze of wonder and elation. I couldn’t get enough of this spectacular story with mind-boggling characters. I loved I every second of it, and hated to see it end. My mind is still reeling from the majestic experience and savoring the beauty I was gifted with. Donna Grant is quickly becoming one of my all-time favorite authors! She is a true genius and offers us the gold standard of incredible storytelling. I can’t ask for anything more from a fabulous author, and I truly hope to be able to enjoy much more from her in the near future!

    Fantastic Series

I read an ARC copy of Dark Alpha’s Hunger from NetGalley and St Martin’s Press in exchange for my honest opinion. Dark Alpha’s Hunger by Donna Grant is book six in the Reaper series. The Reapers are a unique group among the Fae. Both the Dark and the Light Fae make up the Reapers. They align primarily with Death and each other. Reapers are responsible for the execution of the Fae so deplorable they can no longer exist among their people. This story focuses on the Reaper Eoghan and the Half Fae Thea. When the couple finds each other, Thea discovers she belongs in a world of magic she never knew existed. One can read this book as a stand-alone, more so than the rest of the series. The storyline diverts a bit with this installment. It moves away from the main Reaper group and introduces multiple new characters. I always suggest in a setting such as the Dark World, that reading all previous installments take place. Hostilities in a realm that includes the Reapers and the Dragon Kings in the immediate, and going as far back as the Dark Sword series, are now in full swing. Several characters that share time here have deep-seated pasts. To omit confusion background information is given when relevant, but the full dramatic effect will not occur if that past is not familiar to the reader. As always, the characters are engaging. And who doesn’t enjoy a sexy Fae with an Irish brogue? Eoghan has the respect of his fellow companions due to his integrity. Thea overcomes a dark past to find happiness in a new world. The attraction between the two is fast and fierce. I am not typically in support of an insta-love scenario, but overlook it when the payoff is worth it. In the Dark World, the thematic developments deeply integrate into their world and are tremendously compelling. I like the buildup of various subplots, and again, sexy Fae. For those who are aware of the Dark World and its complexity. ** Beware of minor spoilers.** Usail, the Light Queen, has gone way beyond what I feel is redeemable. Or rather, any delusions regarding Usail’s true nature can no longer be contested after her actions and admissions in Dark Alpha’s Hunger. If one considered Usail’s words carefully, there is a slight hint about Rhi and her Dragon King. Perhaps one that gives it away. But, maybe not. This secret, as for many others readers, is one I am invariably trying to uncover. What I find best about these books is the world building. The Dark World is a fun and intriguing urban fantasy setting, everything interconnects. The males are dominant but possess decency and honor. The women rise above their fear and become better for it. The romantic interludes are always sensual. I plan for the release dates, so I don’t have to wait to experience them. My opinions may not match others, and I encourage everyone to find their own.

New characters refreshingly breathe new life

I read books from all three of Donna Grant's related series and it is always nice to be able to pick up any book from any of them and get the gist of what's going on. However, I would suggest reading all of them in release order as the intertwining plots are becoming more and more complicated. Dark Alpha's Night focuses on Eoghan, one of the original Reapers who has been trapped in another dimension for some time. Thea is a Halfling of unknown heritage whose melody from her violin is able to free Eoghan. The novel was the perfect length for me, about a four hour read. There was a great balance between the romance arc and the action/suspense of the novel. The introduction of the new Reapers is very exciting and I can't wait to read more about them, particularly Aisling, the sole female. There is an intriguing revelation regarding the heroine's origins which ties in to a major character. I'm sure that Thea will play an interesting role later. All in all, this was a good addition to the series and entire world that includes the Dragon Kings and the Warriors. I must admit that I was getting a little bored with them, but Dark Alpha's Hunger breathed new life in to overarching plot.

    I Loved It

Thea grew up in an orphanage. She has no idea who either of her parents are. Her only abiding love is her music. Once she was given a violin, nothing else mattered. She also has a fascination with the standing stones she visited as a child. Playing her music there will have very dramatic effects. Eoghan is drawn to the music. Following the sound guides him from the depths of the Hell he has lived in . Now he is free, Death herself has a task for him. The Fae, both dark and light have reason to fear. There is a new team of Reapers in play. Lots of excitement and magical characters. Our heroine will discover things about her heritage that she would probably rather not known. You can pick your friends but not your family. This is a series that is best read in order because of the underlying story, but you could read each book on its own. I love this series and will read any I can get my hands on.

one of my favorites in the series by far!

This one is Eoghan’s book; one I have looked forward to since meeting the Reaper who refuses to speak for thousands of years and then sacrifices himself to save his friend Cael, causing him to be sucked into a hell realm.  He finally fights his way free and it is all because of a halfling. Thea is an orphan and ever since she was a little girl and visited some standing stones, she is drawn back to the portal stones and again and again throughout her adult years. They call to her, though she doesn't know why, and now she goes up to them and plays her violin just to get out of the city and have alone time.  It is her music that helps Eoghan find his way to the gateway where he fights to get free and she helps pull him out. He is drawn back to her again and again, and even though he tries to push her away, when she is kidnapped he will stop at nothing to find her.  Who wanted her kidnapped was a HUGE surprise and their love story was awesome and the plot was so good.  He is one of the more interesting and dynamic Reapers in the series and Donna Grant didn't disappoint with his story at all.  I am so happy with how this one turned out.  I think it is one of my all time favorite Reaper books.
