    A wonderful historical mystery!

I read the Canadian/American publication of this book, entitled Fiercombe Manor. The British version is "The Girl in the Photograph". I loved the book, whatever the title. For me, it combined two of my favourite things - historical fiction with a touch of mystery. To add to the enjoyment, the book spanned two different historical periods, both with story lines at Fiercombe Manor in England - one in the 1930's, the other in the 1890's. The story opens in the early '30's following the life of Alice, a young "career" woman who finds herself pregnant and single after an encounter with her married boss. Her parents, embarrassed by her predicament, send her to Fiercombe Manor where a childhood friend of her mother's works. Once there, Alice tries to discover some of the history of the home & family & discovers a journal written in the 1890's by Elizabeth, the wife of the Lord of the estate. Both women appear to share a pregnancy of solitude and Alice is determined to find out the secret of what happened to Elizabeth, her young daughter and her unborn child. An evocative & haunting story.

    A beautiful read.....

Reminiscent of Daphne du Maurier. The author's descriptions of the old manor are vivid and well-written. I would recommend this book to readers. Five stars from me.

    Wow!

This novel is a wonderful Gothic novel full of everything you would expect to be in a creepy read - an old house, strange servants, and a damsel in distress. Oh, and don't forget about the very handsome hero!
