  • A Perfect Second-Chance-at-Love Story

What a fun, absolutely charming, second-chance-at-love novella this was. It was refreshing, too, that it involved a couple in their forties. I liked that for a change as I’m a more mature reader myself. Eugenia, “Genie” St. John has mourned her departed husband for two years. Her cousin invites her to a house party, which Genie finds out is not the type of house party she was expecting. One of the male invitees, Edmund Holt, Lord Satterfield, remembers seeing Eugenia Aldwick when she first came out. He was enchanted with her but did not pursue his interest at that time. He is surprised and glad that she is at the house party. The author did a wonderful job of portraying and unfolding the burgeoning romance between the two main characters. Also, it was interesting to see the dynamics going on between the main and the secondary characters. Edmund finds out that he isn’t the only one who is attracted to Genie. The author made me smile several times with the way she described Genie’s feelings, “should she kiss him – should not?” And the first time she goes to Edmund’s room. “She’s as agitated as a new bride – or is it anticipation?” It was such a beautiful lovemaking episode that was written. I did feel sorrow and some heartbreak when it seemed like there was no chance for them as a couple. But fortune gave Edmund another chance to finally have the woman he has loved since he first saw her. I highly recommend this novella. It is a great prequel to The Untouchables series by this author, whose books are highly entertaining. I received an ARC and offer this voluntary review. All opinions stated are my own.

  • Interesting House Party

Genie, the Dowager Duchess of Kendal, has been a widow for two years after twenty years of happy marriage. Edmund, the Earl of Satterfield, has never married. Actually, he fell in love with Genie at her come out twenty years ago, but lost his chance to pursue her. They meet again at a house party organized by Genie’s cousin Cecilia. Edmund sees a second chance. Genie is overwhelmed. Will Edmund be able to win Genie? Will one of the other suitors? Is Genie even ready to move on? Edmund and Genie are loveable and compelling. There is an undeniable attraction and red-hot chemistry. Not bad for a couple in their forties. The other party guests are likeable, and a good time is had by all. There are a few rather considerable obstacles, but they just might get that second chance. The Bachelor Earl is the prequel to the Untouchables and an absolutely delightful story. You might need a tissue in parts, but you will end with an ahhhh. I really enjoyed this story. I happily recommend it and the Untouchables. I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.

  • Historical Romance - Prequel

The Bachelor Earl by Darcy Burke The Untouchables - Prequel Delightfully delicious and a wee bit decadent…this story tells of a house party with a twist…connections of long or short term can be arranged by male and female guests who had been married but lost their spouses. Which ones will find a mate and which ones will not? What I liked: * Genie: dowager duchess, widow, stepmother, loved her husband, mourned him two years, still misses her Jerome – she was not apprised of the type of house party she would be attending. * Edmund Holt, Lord Satterfield – bachelor, in need of an heir, looking for a wife to provide that heir, but also looking for love. * The writing, plot, and story – it was a delight to have an older couple that might find their HEA * The games played at the house party * I really liked all of it :) Usually I put in something I don’t like but this story had nothing to dislike. Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review. 5 Stars

  • lovely mature couple

I am voluntarily posting an honest review after reading an advance reader copy of this story. The Bachelor Earl, by Darcy Burke, is available at booksellers on 11-17-2020. This story is a part of Ms Burkes The Untouchables series. I very much liked reading about an older couple who were still vibrant and living a nice life. Your 40's is still a good time to find love again. Edmond was attracted to Genie years ago but left London for adventure. Genie married, for love, and had a happy marriage. Now a widow she and Edmund start a house party fling. Love the second time may be different from a first love but it's just as sweet. #DarcyBurke #Netgalley #DarcyBurkePublishing #TheBachelorEarl #TheUntouchables #Historicalromance #romance.

  • Fantastic Historical Romance

The Bachelor Earl is an awesome, fun historical romance by Darcy Burke. Ms. Burke has provided readers with a well-written book. I totally love the characters in this story. Genie is a widow and travels to her cousin's for a house party. She discovers once she's there that it's all single and available people there for the purpose of enjoying a few days of naughty fun or something more permanent. Her invitation was the only one that didn't include that information. She's slightly irritated with her cousin. Edmund remembered Genie from when they were younger, but he wasn't in a position to court her. Edmund and Genie's story is packed with drama, humor and sexy bits. I enjoyed reading The Bachelor Earl and can't wait to read my next book from Darcy Burke. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from Bookfunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
