    Surprisingly decent

I expected to hate this book based on some reviews. And even the first couple of chapters started to make me think I was in for slow and painful read. Elisa starts out as this witty but self loathing character that continually bashes herself on her weight and eating habits. But deeper than that I do see a sweet and loyal character that throughout the book becomes more confident and fierce in her role as a leader and inspiration towards others. The book had some pretty good suspense, but that big on plot twists in my opinion. The story sort of glances over Elisa being a bearer and what that means as far as how this world works which was pretty annoying but once things got rolling this book was actually pretty good. And again Elisa has a great character development and growth turning herself into a heroine you can really get behind. The book also hosts a plethora of interesting and memorable characters. Overall the story was decent and I think I'll set myself up for the rest of the series.

The Girl of Fire and Thorns.

Rae Carson has an excellent gift for description. Many contemporary books are sadly lacking in this skill. Not so 'The Girl of Fire and Thorns'. I was transported by Rae's descriptive powers. Great book!

    Pure entertaining.

Meet Lucero-Elisa de Riqueza, a young 16 year old princess from the kingdom of Orovalle, who is forced to marry king Alejandro de Vega from an allied kingdom, Joya d'arena. Both kingdoms are currently in the verge of war with another darker opposing realm, the Invernos. She has been chosen by her 'God' (of whichever religion that ritualises rose thorns and blood...yeah, very weird but cool). Her being'chosen by God' is represented by a jewel that is alive on her navel, called the Godstone. It was placed by said 'God'during her naming ceremony. Elisa has an eating disorder and anxiously eats as many pastries as she can, which obviously reflect on her self esteem, size and shape of her body. She is clever but shy, a very intuitive, young scholar-in-the-making, who devotes to her studies, specially Lengua Classica, a war manifesto: Belleza Guerra, pastries and embroidery. However, her whole world is shifted, once she is bound to king Alejandro, as she is expected to move and live in a different place, Joya d'arena's capital, Brisadulce. It was light, adventurous and creative. What entertained me the most was the pace, you'll never have time to linger in the last chapter you've read, as it's a 'go,go,go' type of story until its over. As expected, many things are left unresolved, as this is part of a bigger series. The Girl of Fire and Thorns is a book that delivered good entertainment. There is self discovery, adventure, learning, treachery, mystery, love, friendship and loss

The Girl of Fire and Thorns

Not a great book at all. It was very religious throughout the text. The characters were flat and boring.
