    Sweet, intriguing, and romantic!

The Light Over London is a compelling tale set during the early 1940s, as well as the present day, and is told from two different perspectives. Louise, a young girl who finds adventure outside her hometown by becoming a Gunner Girl in the British Army and being swept off her feet by a dashing RAF pilot; and Cara, a recent divorcee who after finding an old locket, photograph, and diary during an estate sale embarks on a journey to discover the owner’s identity and life story. The writing is light and fluid. The characters are intelligent, resilient, and determined. And the plot, including all the subplots, intertwine and unravel subtly into an engaging tale of life, loss, family, heartbreak, betrayal, friendship, secrets, and love. Overall, The Light Over London is an uplifting, atmospheric, informative tale about taking chances, moving on, and discovering one’s true self. And even though I felt it delved a little deeper into the romance, relationship side than the historical fiction side of things I did enjoy the little glimpse into some of the unknown, specialty roles women played during WWII.

    World War II Historical Fiction

The Light Over London by Julia Kelly is a World War II historical novel. I really enjoyed the historical aspects of life in this era. I found the jobs women filled were especially interesting. Certain parts of the story were predictable but well told. The characters were interesting although I would have preferred more detail at the end of their stories. Plenty of fast paced mystery and Intrigue throughout.

    Light over London

I really enjoyed this book. Having emigrated to Canada from southern England, it brought back memories of places and the stories I used to hear from my family about the war.

    Light over London

Great story; I enjoyed discussing it with my husband who grew up in London during the war (he remembers the Ack Ack crew). His mom and his two sisters were evacuated to a farm south of Liverpool. His dad was an air raid warden and was so lonesome without them so they went back to London; they had an Anderson shelter and a safe area under the basement steps with food/water and mattresses for sleeping.

    Light over London

Enjoyed this book. Interesting characters. Two stories that intertwine. Loved the tale if Louise Keene in the war years. Would recommend this book.
