  • Disappointing

We have enjoyed all of the previous Silva novels, but The Order was by far his weakest and most disappointing work. Instead of continuing with enhancing Allon's and the office characters and placing them in a creative tension filled espionage plot, Silva took a page from Dan Brown and filled most of the book with fictionalized religious events/documents. The result was a lengthy examination of the history of European anti-Semantism with a focus on the Catholic church and Germany's roles in victimization of Jews. Yes, persecution of a cultural or racial group is wrong, was wrong and will be wrong should it occur in the future. Silva's viewpoint is his to hold. The suggestion that Jews will be blamed for Corona virus takes the victimization to a new level and is insulting to his readers. Readers choose to read his novels for strong characterization and relationships that evolve in the novel; plots that are timely but also emphasize spy craft and espionage. We love Allon's interactions with his staff, his family and the art he restores. Even the art restoration was started and dropped in this novel without even a comment.

  • Escape to Italy and Europe

The setting for story gave me an opportunity to visit virtually some of my favourite places, Venice, Florence, Siena, Assisi, Rome, Geneva, Heidelberg, Berlin. The story connects with attitudes and opinions in current political situations. And the story has a love as one of the themes.

  • An excellent addition to the Gabriel Allon series

Daniel Silva’s “The Order “ continues the adventures of legendary Israeli operative Gabriel Allon. Gabriel, his wife Chiara and their children have gone to Venice for a brief vacation. When the Pope is found dead in Rome, Gabriel is drawn into matter of the Pope’s possible murder when his friend, Archbishop Donati, requests his help. Gabriel and members of his Israeli team investigate the situation surrounding the Pope's death, solving the mystery. This is a well crafted thriller which deals with intrigue and deception within the Catholic Church. A very good read.

  • Boring and preachy

This book was not good. The author wanted to promote his views on religion, history, and world events and put together a weak book to do so. The action, characters, and plot were boring and I couldn't wait to finish this book. I'll take an Orphan X novel by Greg Hurwitz over this any day.
