  • So-so opposites attract/enemies to lovers romance

Julia Garcia is a hot-shot San Francisco lawyer who has just been passed over for a promotion which has been given to an incompetent man, Blaine. Her father Juan has MS and has suddenly taken a turn for the worst so she has taken some annual leave to look after him, something Blaine bitterly resents. Kaiden Miller was friends with Julia's older brother Miguel at school, he has stayed at home in Morgantown, working on his Dad's ranch and as a carpenter, helping to repurpose some of the historical buildings for housing. When Juan's doctor asks Kaiden to stop over to see what alterations Juan needs to make his home more wheelchair-friendly Kaiden is happy to help, that's what people do in small towns, he doesn't bank on meeting Julia Garcia fancy-schmancy, stick-up-her-butt, lawyer Julia who has always looked down on him. For her part Julia has never forgiven the class clown Kaiden for ridiculing her and bad-mouthing her behind her back at school. Kaiden is the perpetual funny-man, the peacemaker, the one with the even temper who can coax his bad-tempered father out of a strop, but with Julia his equanimity deserts him and he takes delight in needling her. This started promisingly but I felt the reasons for the enmity between Julia and Kaiden didn't really have much justification and there was a lot of unexplained backstory with Julia's brother Miguel which didn't go anywhere. Overall there wasn't enough tension between Julia and Kaiden which was compensated by lots of family angst and manufactured drama. An easy read, with engaging characters but not enough character development for my taste. I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in return for an honest review.

  • Kaiden and Julia have fire in their hearts!

Set in the middle of two very complex families, the love story between Julia and Kaiden has all the heart and all the heat that a romance reader could want. Both have to address their evolving relationships with their fathers, which made for a very absorbing, heart-wrenching, emotional tale. Julia and Kaiden are true opposites, and the one chance they had in high school to pursue the possibility of more was sabotaged from every angle. Now that Julia's dad needs Kaiden's contracting expertise to remodel and adapt his home for his declining health, these two have more than enough opportunity to figure out if there's anything worth pursuing now. I really enjoyed the distinct personalities the author created for her characters. Their hearts are split wide open as they examine where they are and compare that to where they want to be, and I loved every gut-punching revelation they had to go through. This story is simple on the outside but very complicated at its core, and I was hooked from the very first page all the way to their heartwarming HEA. I also enjoyed getting updates on the characters from previous books and how their HEAs are shaping up. The entire Miller family is on board for this story, centering the story right in the middle of Kaiden's family dynamics. I loved how the issues that came up were handled realistically while still preserving the integrity of the virtues that are the hallmark of the Morgan Valley series. This is a terrific book in an amazing series, and one I highly recommend to any reader who loves contemporary cowboy stories. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

  • Kaiden and Julia

I may not have read all of this series yet, but I’ve loved what I’ve read so far. In this book, we get to read more about Kaiden Miller and his love for Julia. I won’t leave any spoilers , but I will say if you love books about family and friends, you will enjoy this series. I have to say that I still don’t care for Jeff Miller, the patriarch of the family, but he’s growing on me, lol. Grab your copy and see if Kaiden will get his happily ever after or if Julia returns to San Francisco. I received an advanced reader copy of this book from NetGalley and this is my voluntary and honest review.

  • He antagonizes her

He antagonizes her. Kaiden is the rancher next door, who also happens to be a carpenter. Julia is back in town to oversee the accessibility changes to her father's house and arrange help for him in her absence. These two are constantly at it, Kaiden really seems to treat Julia with nonstop quarreling. Recommend

  • Loved it

I loved this book! The drama of life & love is well told in this book as in the other books in all the series of Morgan Valley. I kept wondering in the first 2 books who would be a great match for Kaiden, his character was very deep even though he played the part of a joker, peacemaker & carefree guy most of the time. I really liked Julia as his match, she’s strong, intelligent, beautiful & has a heart full of love, worthy of someone like Kaiden. We watched the constant chemistry between Julia & Kaiden bubble over each time they were around one another until it exploded & what a great experience that was. I love how author Kate Pearce keeps us on the edge wondering how long it will be before they realize that they’re meant for each other. I also enjoyed how Kaiden showed up with his evidence to prove his belief in Julia after their big blow up. I’m curious as to what will happen next for them & wonder if her brother will show his face around town again. Definitely recommend. Thank you to Net Galley & the publisher & author Kate Pearce for allowing me to read this book for an honest review.
