    Thought Provoking

This book is a real page turner. It's hard to believe it's a debut novel. Matthew loses his brother, who has Downs, in an accident when they are children. This story tells of how a mothers grief can impact on a child ( at first I thought Matthew was a victim of mauchauseens by proxy) and how a young man can descend into mental illness . Grief for a loved one is at the centre of the story. The full story of the accident is held back and I read on eager to know more. It was heart wrenchingly sad. The book also raised some really interesting questions about how we treat mental health issues and the stigma attached to it. About how you can get caught up in the system even. This side of the story feels valid and is, the author is a mental health nurse. Don't let the fact that mental health is a theme put you off. This book is about what happens to a family who lose someone, about guilt and about hope ultimately. I recommend it highly.

    The Shock of the Fall

I lived through this book with the author, and was convinced by the characters and the empathy 4 the narrator that it must be autobiographical. A real treat of a read, I highly recommend it.

    Amazing read

Totally fell in love with the main character, loved how the story developed and things were slowly revealed. A good insight in to mental health.
