This is book #3 in the Hot & Hammered series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. For reader to enjoy and avoid spoilers, I would recommend reading the series in order. Bethany likes to have her life in order. She prides herself on the ability to be the best at what she does. Then the one man who can spin her whole life out of control is the one who volunteers to help her when it counts. Wes is glad to have a good job and be appreciated. He also has been trying to get Bethany to go out with him for so long. Now they must work together and dating and more is off the table. Better to help her get her business off the ground. This story was a slow burn. The attraction between the characters is obvious from the beginning. The book picks up pace, and so does the main characters. Then they are invited to do more and add humor, and well I cannot spoil it. ***This ARC copy was given in exchange for an honest review by Netgalley and its publishers.

  • Slow burn, sizzling heat!

Wow, Wes and Bethany had chemistry that sizzled off the pages, and we had a good long build up before it couldn’t be contained. But Wes and Bethany also had a whole bunch of heart, just neither realized it was there, they had buried it so deeply. Wes and Bethany also had a tonne of passion, whether sparing, flirting, fighting, or getting it on, they went at it with all that they were, and held nothing back. Add in a perfectly imperfect kindergartener, and your heart and soul will be so wrapped up in the story, you will be glowing with happiness, after a few crying moments, by the end!

  • So much heart and heat!

I’ve been waiting for Wes and Bethany’s story for what feels like forever and it was everything I could hope for with more heart and heat than I ever expected! Bethany was a heroine that I could totally relate to. She’s a perfectionist with everything in her life and as a result that has caused her stress and unhappiness. Watching her come to the realization that it’s okay to let some things go was an inspiration to me as I too often worry over the small things. Wes was the type of hero that I adore. He’s a dirty talker with a heart of gold who is slightly broken on the inside and yet he was more than willing to work through his issues as well as those he shared with Bethany. If only we could all be so lucky to have a Wes in our lives. This is an older woman/younger man trope with 7 years difference. While their ages posed a bit of conflict, it didn’t take them long to overcome it as they lit up the pages with a chemistry that was so hot I’m sure I’ve not read another book to compare in that department. The true issues arise in the form of what each character carries inside and I loved the way they both failed and then succeeded in making it work between them. This is a fast read that included characters from the previous books of which I giggled and grinned at their antics. This whole group is one that once you meet, you’ll feel as though you’re a part of them...and you’ll miss them when they’re gone.

  • Incredible read

Another extraordinary story by Tessa Bailey. Her stories are always so good. Never able to put them down. She gives readers exactly what they want and keeps them coming back for more. Tools of Engagement is a story like no other. Each book in the series is amazing but she saved the best for last. Bethany and Wes are perfect. Bethany on the outside seems perfect. Always put together but in reality just like everyone else. Not perfect. She tries to appear perfect so no one can see that she is indeed human. Wes doesn’t even know what it is to grow up in one home. He has been in numerous foster homes and has never felt part of a family. He is the only man who sees beneath Bethany’s layers. Yet he doesn’t judge her nor run. Rather he stays and helps her to accept that no one is perfect but she is the entire package if only she would let go and see the good she has to offer. Caring for his 5 year old niece gives Wes that feeling of family and what it is to be loved. Instead of looking to run back to where he came from he is ready to stay and set down roots. As long as Bethany and Laura are there to share it with him. There isn’t a story written by Tessa Bailey that I have not loved and Tools of Engagement is no different. A true 5 star read.

  • Fun Read with the perfect amount of steam

I received an ARC of this book to read through Edelweiss+. All opinions are my own. Tools of Engagement is the third book in Tessa Bailey’s Hot & Hammered series. It’s an excellent series, and I do think you will enjoy this book more if you have read the previous books in the series, but you could read this as a stand-alone if you wish. The story is described as being enemies to lovers, but I see it as more of an opposites attracts with combustible results. Bethany Castle is the middle child and she’s spent her entire life struggling to be perfect, to present as serenely elegant all while paddling madly beneath the surface desperate to maintain that facade. Wes Daniels has never had a home or a family of his own, raised in the foster child system he’s arrived in town to look after his niece and learning to be the single parent of a 4 year old has him baffled. Their seven year age difference and knowing that Wes will be gone when his sister returns are just a couple of the reasons that Bethany is not about to give this rodeo cowboy the time of day, even if he is the one that’s helping her follow her dream to do a house flip all on her own. I loved how the relationship between these two very different people grew and how they began to balance each other making them stronger together than they were apart. It’s a wonderful story and I highly recommend reading it. Medium Steam.
