    Stockholm syndrome?

It's catchy alright, but I don't really think we should romanticize kidnapping a woman just because the leader of the kidnappers happens to be oh-so masculine and "warm." Also how about we don't contribute to the super fun myth in our society that when a women says no, she really means yes?

Wonderful balance of fantasy and romance!

This one was a definite winner for me. I found a whole lot to like in this book. I thought that the blend of fantasy and romance was well done. I was sucked into this story right from the story and found the characters, the world, and the overall story to be fascinating. This was a really strong start to a new series. I loved the world that this book was set in right from the start. It started out feeling almost like a historical novel but it was quickly apparent that this was a completely different world. A world full of magic and danger. I couldn't get enough of the magic in this story. I loved how the world building continued throughout the book and by the end I had a really good feel for the entire realm. I loved the characters. Cat was amazing. She had a lot of spunk and I quickly figured out just how brave she really is. She is a clairvoyant but not just any clairvoyant - she is the Kingmaker. She has worked to hide what she is so that she can have control over her own life. It seemed that we learned a little bit more about Cat's powers with every chapter and I thought all of her abilities really made the book more interesting. Griffin was pretty awesome as well. Even though he has the power to be Alpha of his realm, he is happy to let that title fall to his sister while he assumes the role of Beta. He seemed to want to see strong but fair leadership in his realm instead of the usual tyrant ruler. He isn't perfect...I mean he does kind of kidnap Cat and everything. I liked Cat and Griffin together. The always seemed to have respect for each other and a level of trust. I really enjoyed their banter and the the chemistry between them. There were even a few rather steamy scenes that were very well done as well. I liked how they quickly became very protective of each other and how their actions really demonstrated their feelings. I would highly recommend this book to others. It does have a strong romance theme but any reader that enjoys a bit of romance along with their fantasy will enjoy this captivating read. This is the first book by Amanda Bouchet that I have had a chance to read but I am already eager to get my hands on the next on in this series. I received a copy of this book from Sourcebooks Casablanca via NetGalley for the purpose of providing an honest review.

    Heerlijk verslavend boek

Heerlijk boek om in weg te duiken. Verrassende verhaallijn, met moedige, karaktervolle vrouw als hoofdpersoon. In een ruk uitgelezen.

    Phenomenal, Sensational, & Outstanding!

PHENOMENAL new book from a debt author! A Promise of Fire is book one in the Kingmaker Chronicles by Amanda Bouchet. The cover pulled me in and I’m so glad I tried out this book. This was my very first fantasy romance read. I don’t understand why it took me so long to pick up this genre, but I am so glad that my first book in this genre was OUTSTANDING! Amanda Bouchet did a SENSATIONAL job! I was so engrossed, that I lost track of time and when I needed to stop I didn’t want to. A Promise of Fire is loaded full of action, adventure, prophecy, and so much more. We get battles to fight and creatures from myths and legends to slay. Plus our characters have secrets that involve Gods and more. The story is original and the author weaves a complex world with unique characters and a thick plot full of action. The beginning felt a bit slow, but once you get past the first chapter things pick up and move along fast. Catalia was an interesting character. Her past is not pleasant, so she has learned to not let anyone get close and to keep her secrets to herself. But she will learn to open up and start healing. The Warlord Beta Sinta aka Griffin was a very sexy character and I love that he never gives up on Cat. These two still have a long way to go, but things are starting to change. I throughly enjoyed the verbal sparing Cat and Griffin do and how their relationship is developing. All the characters introduced in A Promise of Fire are pretty interesting and likable. This story ended way too soon and left me wanting more. It captivated me and I can’t wait to dive deeper into the Kingmaker Chronicles series. I’m waiting on pins and needles for the next installment. Rated: 4.5 Stars *Disclaimer: I received a complimentary ARC copy provided by Sourcebooks Casablanca via NetGalley with the sole purpose of an honest review. Blown Away!

This was a fantastic book with the perfect blend of fantasy and romance and I am so excited to read Amanda Bouchet’s future books. The world building is was so great, with a very rich world filled with depth and history. The land of Thalyria is so interesting with it’s Northerner’s possessing magic and it’s Southerners being just plain mortals. The presence of Gods, Goddess, Giants, Dragons, Oracles, and an abundance of magical powers and creatures weave throughout, leaving you waiting for the next surprises. There was a lot of interference by the Gods to ensure that Cat and Griffin are helped along the way; though I will say this lessened in the second half of the book. If certain Gods are so clearly behind Cat it makes me wonder why they let her be so badly hurt by Andromeda to begin with. But I guess you can just say the Gods are capricious. I’m usually not a huge fan of books written in first person but Cat has such a great voice! She’s funny, very sarcastic, and just so entertaining to read her inner thoughts. I loved that Cat was also very tough and knew how to take care of herself. She doesn’t need anyone to rescue her and she’s not afraid to do whatever it takes to protect herself and those she cares about. Griffin makes a great hero who is both tough and possessive as the mighty Warlord but also sweet and gentle when he’s confronted with Cat’s fears and insecurities. These two have such great chemistry and banter and bicker in the best way. I loved watching Cat learn to trust Griffin and begin to soften as well as watch Griffin really take it up a notch when he realizes that Cat is meant for him. The supporting characters are just as interesting and I found myself falling completely in love with Beta Team. I hope there will be plenty of Flynn, Kato, and Carver in the next books. I do wish this book had a map so I could better understand the layout of Thalyria; it’s not too complicated but I always enjoy having a visual for books like this.
