  • Brilliant!

I found ‘The Girl in the Missing Poster’ to be such a heartbreaking and tense mystery. I loved how the story was told through Stella and alongside the transcripts for the television documentary. It showed the public face of it all, then I as the reader then got to see the deep feelings that Stella was holding back. I felt Stella’s relentless urge to know what had happened to Leila all those years ago, and as the story unfolded, so did the emotions. It had such a real feel to it because of the way it was written. The cat and mouse elements were haunting and eerie. They had me feeling a little creeped out on many occasions. As for the characters, I loved Stella’s strength as much as her vulnerability. The first chapter is kick ass. When and if you read it, you’ll see why. She’s definitely a character to be admired! The surrounding cast, including Euan, Mary and the lovely dogs really added so much to the story and to the development of Stella’s character. Did I say I loved the dogs? Well I did! Finally, I have to mention that mega ending... what a big surprising treat! I can only say you’re in for one hell of an emotional and exciting ride if you choose this book. Fab read!

  • Brilliant and engrossing thriller

This reeled me in from the first page and kept me under its spell until the last page. This is a poignant story about a family’s enduring agony over losing loved one and the anguish followed by it. This starts with Stella sticking missing posters of her identical twin sister Leila around the town. Twenty-five years ago, Lelia was on her way to her apartment from her parent’s party, vanished without a trace. Police search led to nowhere. Stella has agreed to be part of a true crime documentary in the hope of finding the fate of Leila. I connected with Stella from the get go. She is strong and at the same time vulnerable. The Poignant writing stirred up a lot of emotions in me. The loss Stella suffered, not knowing what happened, wasn't able to move forward in life without having a closure, and the anguish she was put through made my heart heavy. I had to stop reading a lot of times to pull myself together. This event has changed Stella’s life irrevocably. She couldn’t even look at herself in the mirror since it reminded her of twin sister. You would think she has gone through the worst times already but you are wrong as the worst fate is awaiting her. The story is narrated in chapters alternating between Stella’s story in present day and documentary transcripts consisting of interviews with family, friends and the cops involved in the investigation. It’s clearly visible Copperthwaite poured her heart into these characters who can’t get more realistic than this. Her brilliancy is evident in creating super tight plot, revealing bit by bit and keeping readers at the edge of their seats. She has maintained suspense throughout the book and ended with action-packed scenes. You MUST read this to find out how the perpetrator has been pulled out of the woodwork. I must say it’s mind-blowing scheme and the revelation is truly astonishing. Copperthwaite also depicted how social media brings people together, and on the other hand what a cruel place it is, terrible people hiding behind screens passing cruel judgements, conjuring up conspiracy theories, have opinion on everything under the sun, without an iota of kindness, not bothered to consider other people’s pain. Overall, I would recommend this captivating, engrossing, and riveting psychological thriller to all thriller fans. Thank you Netaglley and Bookouture for providing me an advanced copy in exchange for an honest opinion.

  • Whodunnit?

A book that will keep you on the edge of your seat wanting to know more. Stella identical twin Leah disappeared 25 yrs ago, and in an effort to draw attention to the cold crime she agrees to a documentary. Euan is the journalist she is working with on the project. Will the documentary bring to light any new clues? Will Stella ever find the truth? Will Stella let the growing attraction to Euan give her a chance at a future? This was a well written story that made you question, who dunnit? Thank you Netgalley for complimentary copy. The thoughts and opinions are my own.

  • Gripping and engaging

Her identical twin sister is missing! The police have investigated for twenty-five years and are no closer to solving the crime than when it first occurred. The younger twin (8 minutes) continues to search for answers. Can the often-touted genetic connection between identical twins help solve the case? Barbara Copperthwaite weaves a very interesting intrigue involving a young dog whisperer and her male suitors. The ardent attention of the television production companies’ owner as well as her past romances keeps this novel fresh. Suspicion of the various suitors kept me projecting and guessing. Great tactic Ms. Copperthwaite! The ending was certainly not expected although in retrospect it made perfect sense. I suggest this thriller to everyone who enjoys noir mysteries. The suspense grows at a quick pace only to be exposed as not possible near the end of the chapter. The ending of the book wraps the suspense in a very logical bow. 4 stars - CE Williams
