Captivating on a whole new level!

sometimes when I sit down to write a review, I don’t really have an idea on what I should say. This is normally because my thoughts are so scattered about a particular book. Today, that book is H. L. Roberts 23:27. Summarising the book up in one word would result in a strong use of the word ‘emotional’. The story plot was something that I wasn’t expected. I was aware from the get-go that the book was a romance, but I didn’t realise it would be one of those stories that made you ball your eyes out. It reminded me of a Nicholas Sparks novel, because I simply cried that much. The book puts a very bright spotlight on the issues of suicide and racism – two things that are very much prevalent in today’s modern society. I adored how the book shows that there is still a lot of racism in the music industry, and even in the film industry. While times are changing, certain groups are being marginalised by the top people in society. This was the best read I have read in along time! This book, is emotionally driven and it captures you from the start and hard to put down! It is a must read for all ages!

Debut Mature YA With The Makings Of A Best Seller!

First, the cover is perfect. I went in to this book semi-blind. After saying that, I didn't know what to expect. What I know now, is I really fell in love with this book! My heart felt for Lilith Rose. I loved her character. The writing style is superb. The author took two of my favorite things, reading and music and put it into one beautiful story. If you guys are thinking of reading this book, take a chance on it, and let yourself be surprised.

    Emotionally driven YA!

Okay, I promised a review. I am a bit biased I guess, but first and foremost I am a reader. I want to be drawn in and this book did exactly that. Here's why: 1. Lilith. Her character is flawed. She is real. She is going through a hard time and we feel that. Her emotions are spot on. I believed her. I rooted for her. I wanted her to get through the pain being thrust at her around every turn. I wanted to hit the people who were causing it for her. At the same time, I wanted to shake her to remind her if she opened up, if she just talked to someone about certain things, then perhaps things wouldn't have got so bad. 2. Alec. While Alec is sensitive and kind, he is also very self conscious and naive. He believes things with no foundation to believe them. He raises everyone around him up, but is the first to take something negative about himself as truth. Alec for me was quite unique because most of the times in fiction, guys are written hard. But Alec isn't all hard muscles and stoic personality. He is different. Caring. Compassionate. Things writers generally make the female characters. For this reason, I loved this book even more. Not all men are the same and this book depicted that perfectly for me. 3. The band. While they have their issues and their secrets, I feel like this book told a true story of what could happen if you were in a band and it became successful. It is a roller coaster ride of emotions and it would be. Again, the realness of the scenes and the heart put behind the words is what captivated me. The story is so engrossing. There are ups in 23:27 and there are downs. There were moments I wanted to launch the book at the wall because I was so frustrated with the characters. But there were moments I could have cried because I felt so incredibly sad for them and I just wanted things to work out. The emotions this book brought out in me is the whole reason I read. I want to feel something. And Roberts made me feel so much so fast I could hardly put the book down. Do yourself a favor and grab this one when it releases. I was lucky to get my hands on the ARC. It is phenomenal and I can see it becoming a classic read that deals with the pressures of life and what can happen when you can't handle it anymore.

    Book of the Year!

What I considered the main conflict of the book came out to be just the start of it, I was surprised. There was so, so much more into the book than I thought, I loved it! An emotional rollercoaster with Lilith's and Alec's on and off relationship, a book I definitely recommend!

    Beautifully Written Novel.

Thoughtful, wonderful story. Different than anything I've ever read. Happy and sad at the same time. I was rooting for these two during the entire read. Well done Ms. Roberts!
