    Not what you'd expect

Jean Mason is a woman in Toronto who owns a bookstore named Bookstore. She has several regular customers. One day they start telling her she has a doppelgänger in Kensington Market - except she wears different clothes and has short hair - so Jean decides to find the woman, who's name is Ingrid Fox. She quickly meets a few locals and pays them to keep a look out for her. From there the story becomes psychological. Ingrid Fox is married and has a daugher. She writes myster novels. Soon one of Jean's friends commits suicide (or so she thinks), another is murdered and the rest disappear from Kensington Market. Jean soon begins unravelling. What is happening to Jean? This is the question you ask yourself throughout the novel. She seems to have an out of body experience. Who is this woman she sees? Is she even real? I enjoyed reading Michael Redhill's book. He is an excellent writer. He is observant and Jean is a well-written, complex character. We see her thought process, which is often confusing and misleading given that she doesn't know what's happening inside her head and starts to question what's real in her life. I devoured this book after reading the first page. I also enjoy the fact that it is based in Toronto.

    boring read

I have read and liked his other books....this was confusing and boring. I have a great deal of difficulty trusting Giller winners these days.

    Disturbing

I once visited tis park on a school trip 50 years ago. Perhaps because of the familiarity a nd my own acquired fear of the psychologically impaired ( brought about by working a few midnight shifts on 2 Centre of the Toronto East general hospital ), I found this a disturbingly slow descent into the unfathomable.

    A rollercoaster of a story!

Wow! I'm not sure what just happened but this is a real page turner. Somehow this can't be the end but rather the beginng if something BIG! Very cleverly written and wildly descriptive! ...so....what's next?

    Bellevue square

Does everyone have a twin? As I get older more and more times I see a face and I think I know them. Do we start to look more and more alike as time passes. Or is it just a trick of our minds. This book Madd me keep reading. I needed to know where Ingrid was.
