    Go Jays!

A long-time fan of the Blue Jays, it was delightful to read once again of their victory in Rotenberg's Old City Hall. He weaves a very interesting and suspenseful story set within the mystique of Toronto. The book so captivated me that I couldn't stop reading. Every character has such a well-written personality that almost all of them have become friends. I can't wait to read Rotenberg's next book!

    Pretty good first novel

SPOILERS Since the Toronto Maple Leafs win the Stanley Cup in this book, it could be considered a fantasy novel. I enjoyed many aspects of this story, particularly the competence and likeability of all the characters. I also enjoyed the subtle way that the investigation of the murder unfurls. Some things I didn't like were the villains, Phil Cutter, Barb Gild and police chief Hap Charlton who seemed to be introduced to add tension that wasn't needed. I suppose they also gave the author an excuse for the court case to be called a mistrial because of their use of privileged client information. Overall, an entertaining read but I'm not sure that I would read more in this series. The crime seems to be satisfactorily solved, until the dénouement where the two detectives turn the accidental suicide into a definite case of murder and leave the crime unresolved.
