Mounting perils posed by climate change, habitat degradation, pollution, and overexploitation jeopardize numerous species, including microbes. This book strives to shed light on the pressing necessity for sustainable biodiversity practices that safeguard our planet's natural legacy. By delving into diverse strategies, scientific paradigms, and case studies, the authors reveal how holistic approaches to biodiversity can cultivate flourishing ecosystems wherein wildlife and human societies co...

In today’s world, where intelligent technologies are deeply transforming human-computer interaction and virtual reality, multi-modal human modeling, analysis and synthesis have become central topics in computer vision. As application scenarios grow increasingly complex, new technologies continue to emerge to address these challenges. These techniques demand systematic summarization and practical guidance. To meet this need, Multi-Modal Human Modeling, Analysis and Synthesis...

This book analyses the equal citizenship claims of women and sexual and gender diverse people across several Asian jurisdictions. The volume examines the rich diversity of constitutional responses to sex, gender and sexuality in the region from a comparative perspective. Leading comparative constitutional law scholars identify 'opportunity structures' to explain the uneven advancement of gender equality through constitutional litigation and consider a combination of variab...

This textbook highlights the theory of fractional calculus and its wide applications in mechanics and engineering. It describes in details the research findings in using fractional calculus methods for modeling and numerical simulation of complex mechanical behavior. It covers the mathematical basis of fractional calculus, the relationship between fractal and fractional calculus, unconventional statistics and anomalous diffusion, typical applications of fractional calculus, and the numeric...

The intercultural communication classroom can be an emotionally and intellectually heavy place for many students and teachers. Sensitive topics arise and students must face complex issues with intellectual curiosity and collegial respect. To navigate the precarious waters of intercultural communications, teachers need an intentional approach to foster meaningful discussion and learning. This pedagogical guide presents conceptual overviews, student activities, and problem-solving stra...

Postcolonial Turn and Geopolitical Uncertainty: Transnational Critical Intercultural Communication Pedagogy connects and interweaves critical communication pedagogy and critical intercultural communication to create a new pedagogy, transnational critical communication pedagogy, that emphasizes the importance of postcolonial and global turns as they are molded into a new area of critical global and intercultural communication pedagogies. Contributors take a transnational approach t...

High definition video requires substantial compression in order to be transmitted or stored economically. Advances in video coding standards from MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 to H.264/AVC have provided ever increasing coding efficiency, at the expense of great computational complexity which can only be delivered through massively parallel processing. This book will present VLSI architectural design and chip implementation for high definition H.264/AVC video encoding, using a state-of-the-...

De-Whitening Intersectionality: Race, Intercultural Communication, and Politics re-evaluates how the logic of color-blindness as whiteness is at play in the current scope of intersectional research on race, intercultural communication, and politics. Calling for a re-centering of difference by exploring the emergence and inception of intersectionality concepts, the coeditors and contributors distinguish between the uses of intersectionality that seem inclusive versus those that actually ena...
