यूरी एलेक्सेविच गागरिन को इतिहास में प्रथम अंतरिक्ष यात्री के रूप में जाना जाता है। सन् 1961 में अचानक सुर्खियों में आनेवाले इस व्यक्तित्व को अपनी महान् उपलब्धि हासिल करने में मात्र दो घंटे ही लगे, किंतु इसकी पृष्ठभूमि में वर्षों की लगन और लक्ष्य-प्राप्ति के लिए कठिन साधना थी। मात्र 27 वर्ष की उम्र में सफलता का कीर्तिमान स्थापित करनेवाला यह महानायक मात्र 33 वर्ष की अल्पायु में संसार से विदा हो गया।
