    Pretty good

It was a great book, some slow parts but overall a great and easy read.

    Read this book!

I absolutely could not stop reading it! The pacing was incredible, the voice was strong and intelligent, and the action sequences were more gratifying than a Die Hard movie! My absolute favourite part about this dystopian young adult novel is that it looks at both of those genres with a "screw you" attitude. Cora is hardly a "traditional" YA heroine. Her character screams, "I am an independent and self-sufficient adult" in a way that doesn't prevent her from being both relatable and emotionally developed. When reading her experiences and decisions, one forgets her youth altogether. And the sometimes staunch dystopian future category can hardly handle this plot. Rather than feeling removed and observant, as I tend to do with futuristic/post-apocalyptic stories, I was thrown head-first into the urgency and plausibility of this version of disease-rampaged Savannah. Brown also ramps up the suspense of the milleau by removing any purported knowledge of how it came to be- until it is being explained by a reliable source- and focusing the development on the primary and secondary characters. The reader doesn't need to wade through forty pages of world-building to understand the setting but rather is shown first-hand through the eyes of Cora as she gathers more and more information. Read this book.
