  • Dragons are back!

So good! Great start to a new series. Great to see some old friends and make some new ones. Lachlan and Star struggle in the beginning. Star is keeping many secrets and takes Lachlan a while to earn her trust. Many twists and turns. Would have preferred a bit more romance between the two. HEA.

  • Exciting!

Loved Star and Lachlan! Their chemistry is amazing and they're both strong characters in their own might. There is danger, suspense, lots of chemistry and tension that I felt on edge almost constantly, but in a good way.

  • Love this world!

I'm so happy that we are back into this world again. This is a spinoff of the Darkness series and I love seeing some of my favorite characters again. Especially the ancient dragon shifters. Out of all the dragon shifter books I have read, Katie Reus has created my absolute favorite dragons. They are dominant, territorial, and extremely possessive of their mates. Plus, they are so old, they come off a bit quirky in today's world. Lachlan's intensity right from the very beginning had me sold. Especially since all that intensity was aimed at Star. He proved he would do anything for her. That's exactly what I'm looking for in a hero. What Star was a mystery for most of the book. I did guess it, but I will admit I doubted my guess a couple of times. That just made it more fun. She was cool character. I don't normally like Alpha females but she was strong without being in your face about it. Plus she had some cool powers. I loved it and I want more. I'm glad this is the start of a new series. There are so many characters still to explore in this world.

  • A pretty good start to a new series.

Through NetGalley, I received a free copy of ANCIENT PROTECTOR (Book 1 of the Ancients Rising Series) by Katie Reus in exchange for an honest review. The supernatural community is ousted from the realm of scary stories and fantasy when a cadre of meglomaniacal dragons attempt to take over the world. The attempted coup results in the utter destruction of most major cities and severe damage to infrastructure. In the aftermath, other supernaturals step up to govern regions, rebuild what remains, and protect all peoples within their territories. Star, a popstar with a supernatural secret prior to the tumult, is leery of dragons since they’ve hunted, abducted, and even murdered her family members. However, one dragon, Lachlan, is causing her to second-guess her distrust. Lachlan and his clan helped Star to liberate her sister from another clan of dragons who held Star’s sister in captivity for a year. When Lachlan shows up months afterward and begins to court Star, she’s still reluctant to trust him. When the dragon clan responsible for kidnapping and imprisoning her sister also show up, Star has to decide whether she can trust Lachlan with her secrets, her family, her heart, and her future. This was a pretty good start to a new paranormal romance series. I recommend this book to fans of Katie Reus and to fans of post-apocalyptic paranormal romance featuring dragons, shapeshifters, vampires, secrets, and reincarnation. #AncientProtector #NetGalley
