這是關於「孫中山與客家」議題，屬於在孫中山研究領域、客家研究領域等深具參考價值的專書，研究方法深具創新性，除了整合孫中山與客家研究的政治社會與文化意義，同時也分析中國革命運動與臺灣客家運動的歷史意涵。孫中山既是客家人也是廣府人，夫人宋慶齡同樣具有客家的血統。孫中山在推動近代中國革命運動中，得到許多客家革命志士的協助，且革命起義的地點也有多處是選擇在中國南方的客家地區。孫中山的革命精神間接影響了當代臺灣客家運動。1988年12月28日「還我母語」運動，尊孫中山為「名譽總領隊」，參考孫中山的「和平•奮鬥•救中國」，將孫中山的遺像戴上口罩，標舉「和平•奮鬥•救客家」，在臺北「國父紀念館」的廣場集結上萬人抗爭遊行。今12月28日已被訂定為「全國客家日」。本書出版有其時代意藴，能增強孫中山研究與客家研究的意義與價值，激發時代青年一起為國家發展而努力。
