Twelve sketches, one for each month, from a Connecticut garden and the people who pass the window. Wright was an ornithologist and the natural history is exact even when the mood is domestic. This edition is bound with 55 plates of painting by Winslow Homer, Albert Bierstadt and Thomas Moran, among others, and includes one restored, coloured illustration.

A foundling left at a village post office in Connecticut grows up among the people who sort the mail and know everybody's business. Wright was known for her nature books and wrote fiction on the side, and the New England village in it is observed rather than invented.
