An admirable account of the heroic volunteers in Europe who assisted fallen airmen and guided them to safety. As a daughter of a Canadian soldier who fought in Africa I felt this book was very much about the Americans. Whilst they were continuing their lives in America many others , civilian and defence members, were living in war zones with thousands losing their lives daily. I personally will never understand why the Americans failed to assist the allies until Pearl Harbour was bombed in 1942. Most war movies depict the Americans as the liberators and heroes of world war 11 but I cannot accept it.
