  • Good Read

This was fabulous debut novel. The story line was terrific, the character work was fantastic and the book had a smooth flow to it. This book had me hooked from the beginning and kept me hooked to the end. I look forward to more from this author. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

  • A Great Romantic Suspense Debut Novel

When Emily Webster was 9-years old, she was abducted and held for months until her rescue. She has no memory of what happened between the moment of her kidnapping and her rescue. And, the rest of the world never learned she was eventually found. It’s been 15 years and she’s now Emma Porter, a completely new identity where’s she’s a reporter for a popular but sketchy outlet owned by a man who spends a lot of energy on conspiracy theories. Her new, high profile assignment is a series of interviews of Nathan Bishop, the CEO of a prominent defense contractor who is best known for his womanizing and daredevil activities. The problem? Nathan grew up with Emily until her abduction and though he was five years older, they were inseparable. I got hooked from the prologue and everything just got better. Emma’s new life is one that has her partly in a bubble for her protection, both from her own fears and from those who originally took her. I don’t want to share much about those circumstances as the information was a slow reveal that I enjoyed learning as delivered. But my fascination was steeped in the relationship between Emma/Emily and Nathan. She doesn’t reveal herself to him but the connection was hard to ignore. I normally lean more to the suspense but this time the romance captivated me. The mystery and thrills just gave it more flavor. I almost passed on this book but did myself a big favor by reading the sample first, which had me do an immediate reversal. There’s so much to enjoy about the story and I stayed up late to finish. It’s not without some plot holes in places but not enough to affect my reading pleasure. The foundation was created for future stories as there are a plethora of secondary characters I’m interested in exploring. This is a really good debut novel. (Thanks to the author for my complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.)

  • A suspenseful romantic story!

Reviewed by Trudi LoPreto for Readers' Favorite Emma (aka Emily) is the heroine but also the victim of False Front by Debbie Baldwin. Nathan is the hero and romantic interest. The two were close childhood friends that haven’t seen each other for many years. When they do meet again the magic is still there and it is obvious that love will soon blossom. Emily was kidnapped as a young child. When she returned home unharmed, her rich father did all he can to protect her including giving her a new identity. She lives afraid of many things from the traumatic events of her childhood but takes a chance to go to New York and become a reporter. Nathan is now an important man with a wild reputation and unaware of what had happened to little Emily. When he requests that she is the only one who he will allow to interview him, the story really begins. There are twists, turns, danger, and suspense around every corner, and Nathan and his many friends do everything they can to fight the bad guys and protect Emily. False Front by Debbie Baldwin is exactly what it says it is – a suspenseful romantic story. I stayed up way past my bedtime not wanting to put down False Front. I loved the intrigue, thrills, and chills and found myself holding my breath several times in anticipation of what would happen next. This is the first book that Debbie Baldwin has written, which is a pleasant surprise to me because it has all the makings of a great romantic suspense novel and none of the mistakes of a new writer. I am anxiously awaiting the next book to find out where and what Nathan and Emily encounter next.
