  • Audio A Must

I've not read the ebook, but I am certain the audiobook version is a must! Her voice and throat singing and poetic flow are amazing. I like how the diction matches the mood of the story. Sometimes the words chosen seem a bit disjointed to me, however, I think this is how the narrator expresses the story so it becomes their nature. I really loved it! I gave 4 out of 5 just because although some reflection was from a younger perpective, so language was young (and comical, that was great), I still felt like parts outside of that still had a juvenile tone. I find it difficult to critique this side because it's the narrator's story, so it probably just didn't match my personality (for example, some of the sexual revisits throughout the book - I kinda felt like the technique used could have been less.) Thank you Tanya for sharing your wonderful talents!

  • An unforgettable audio experience

Tagaq's performance here is both dramatic and musical as she stitches chapters together with rhythmic throat singing.

  • Split Tooth

A painful contrivance. Not my cup of tea. The author mixes painful experiences growing up in the high Arctic with Inuit mythology. I think this mix leaves the reader confused rather than generating empathy for the tragic circumstances. I did appreciate the chapters being separated by throat singing. It made the audiobook a unique experience.

I've read this book in print before and loved it then. I heard the audiobook was even better, and it did not disappoint!
