Nagyszerű háborús regény, amiben a téma ellenére nem a csaták, hadvezérek, haditervek és akciók játsszák a főszerepet, hanem a háború "mellékes" történései: működésképtelen családok, háborús áldozatok, hadi dicsőség elorzása egy nő szerelméért, majd küzdelem, hogy az elorzott dicsőséget visszaszerezzék. Egyszerű történetvezetés, tiszteletreméltó erkölcsi üzenettel. Aki szereti a háborús műfajt ötvözni a romantikus történetekkel, ebben a műben nem fog csalódni.
